Steve brags about all the iMac orders they have (but not sales, because of course it isn't a sale until the customer get's their iMac).

In other words, it's going to be a bust. No new hardware makes for an ultra-lame Expo.

i'm thinking (hoping) for a bigger hd in the 'pod. if it gets over 5gigs (even just to 7 or 8, but i preffer 10) i'll buy it almost immediately. I have almost exactly 5gigs of mp3s now (according to iTunes more than 3 days worth), and i'd like a little room for growth. i'm sick of this 64MB Rio (and to think it was so sweet when i got it). I think its more likely that it'll come out (if at all) around new york tho. mwny seems like it'll b a better show, since no quadrant updates probably till then.

Uh, currently Japan's economy is in the crapper. Remember that business in the early 90's about them being the richest nation on Earth? Yeah. Gone. Buh-bye. For a while there (before the whole Afghanistan thing) people here were worried about the Yen going under. 97 Asian financial crisis, etc.

The other part of what you say may be vaild, however. The Japanese sure seem to have a larger appetite for novelty-ish electronics than Americans do.

Maybe if the iPod came with a built in Tomagatchi...

There hasn't been a 'hash' to 're-hash'. The Power Macs were announced through the Internet, they have never been demoed by Jobs.

There will be hardware in Tokyo. iTV would be nice; a working extension that brings your cable TV right to the desktop via AirMac (Japanese equivalent of AirPort). We could see something in the Ti PB line, especially a video out via ADC, but if not in Tokyo, then here in NYC. I still hope for an iBook with a G4 to match up with iMac, though I know that is probably a loser 'til next year.

TV Related Device: Nope. Only no to TV-related devices though.

iCam/Picture/Take/Camera: Yep. 10 gig drive. Color LCD. Very usable and simple iFace with OS X-esque looks. 2-3 hours battery life. iPod Styling.

iMovie 3: Yep. Expect some more FCP 2-esque features, some filters, etc. Expect it to not tread into FCP 3's territory and for it to stay simple.

AppleWorks 7: Maybe. Expect the unexpected.

iPhoto 1.x or 1.0.x: Definitely. Mainly bug fixes.

    Remote Desktop hashing.

Dual 1GHz hashing and stuff about GeForce 4 Ti.

iMac rehashing and announcement that all models are shipping en masse, stuff about how many ordered.

iPod update to 10 GB, new OS, stuff about how many sold.

Mac OS X 10.2, stuff about 12:00 on the OS X clock. ATI drivers for older comps (please God (Jobs), please).

New displays (17, 19, 24 and design to match QS/work well with upcoming G5...of course they wont say that.

    QuickTime 6 release.

    iTunes update.

No Gigawire. They wont talk about it until a Seybold or WWDC, or at the release of the G5 (Think MWNY). Hopefully the G5 will be like my big orb concept....can only hope.

    LOL!

Yeah, Steve Jobs will introduce the iBong?!

Jobs: "Well, many people have been complaining about the lack of processing power in Macs compared to Wintels. We decided to put those complaints to rest....with this new iBong. This is the coolest, most amazing bong you've ever used! It's powered by the Firewire bus, and synchs with iTunes to glow and pulsate in psychedelic colors with the rhythm of your music. The Firewire power supply also ignites the combustable material in the iBong's bowl. Just fill the iChamber with cold tap water, plug it into your firewire port, download iTunes 3, and your set to toke!"

Jobs demonstrates the iBong by sucking in a marathon runner's-sized lung-full of bong-smoke...holds it in and exhales slowly. The smoke is highlited by the bong's throbbing rainbow of colors. Jobs kicks back and a smile creeps over his face.

"Now when your dog-slow Powermac is taking too long to render some project, or if you're waiting for your iDisk to show up in the finder, you can use your iBong while waiting....and suddenly you will perceive your Powermac to be the fastest computer in the world! It's all about perception, and the new iBong opens doors to perception that we think Mac users will gravitate towards. No more impatient waiting for those dog-slow G4s to catch up with your ideas, now you're going to want to turn off that extra CPU in a dualie Powermac just so you have more time to spend with your iBong!"

And the killer feature of the iBong is that it not only synchs with your Firewire Mac, it also synchs with the iPod. That's right, you can get the same psychedelic light show using the iPod as a power supply (and of course a music supply). The iBong has a set of built-in Flower Power speakers designed by Harmon-Kardon. Best of all, the new iPod also doubles as an iDugout, so you can safely store your stash out of sight from probing eyes.

"Now we here at Apple do not condone any illegal activities. When we tell you all to 'rip, mix, and burn', we mean for you to back up your own audio CDs that you've bought and paid for in full. The new iBong is intended for use with tobacco products only [Jobs begins to snigger and cackle], nothing but tobacco! That's it, and if you even ask about the iBong's potential for use with other, ahh, combustable materials, we here at Apple, will, ahhh....[Jobs erupts in laughter and gigles]....we'll hang up on you!"

"And one more thing..." Jobs laughter dies out for a moment as he concentrates on the last slide of his presentation..."We've put some of our cash stash [more giggles] to good use by acquiring a new company that will work closely with Apple to improve the iPod/iBong user experience. The company is called "Hostess" and they specialize in munchies, ah, I mean, in the snack food sector."

Jobs picks up a Twinky to demonstrate, "I've always loved these things whenever I'm baked", he says, but he has trouble opening the plastic wrapper. Finally Steve gets pissed and throws the Twinky at his assistant, "you open it!".

    End of Expo.

actually, an all software Keynote would not be too bad. OS X needs an update. not sure if 10.2 is far enough along though. iPhoto is begging for a minor update. iMovie 3 is due anytime now and AppleWorks needs a serious overhaul.

Steve Jobs will announce that he's off the vegan wagon and has become a devourer of sushi. The bombshell will come when he announces that he has purchased a daimyo's castle. There will be neither software nor hardware announcements.

Pessimistic? Beats getting all hot for no reason a'tall for the mythical iTablet and iPad.

    See you after MWNY.

    joking about what?

while 50,000 may be low, the actual units ships probably isn't as high as you would think. Apple is supplying themselves. resellers are getting screwed.

and the ingram micro numbers don't look good at all. only a few thousand.

don't get confused with orders and actual shipments.

The Japanese economy is in very sad shape and has been for over 10 years now. The only ones with money are young women who are working good jobs while living at home with Mom and Dad. They call them parasite singles. They spend tons of money on cosmetics, fashion, and cute things. If Apple wants to pander to this market they would have to come out with dozens of models of what they sell in a variety of colors and specs. That is why you see so many varieties of Sony Vaios and other consumer products. This is pretty much going against Apple's trend of late, which is to come out with a single color and two or three models.

I am not sure Japan is necessarily a better market for revolutionary products. They are very fickle and picky consumers and figuring out what they want is very hard...another reason Japanese electronic companies come out with so many different, but pretty similar models. It is the scattergun approach...put out dozens of models and hope one or two take off. I don't look for Apple to try to compete this way.

I am sure though there will be somethings new in Tokyo both in software and hardware. I did hope to make this Macworld my first ever, but have had to put off my trip to Japan a month to late. If any of these "under the seat" fantasy giveaways come to pass I will be really steamed!

50,000 iMacs?!?!? No way has Apple shipped that many yet. More like 5,000 or so. They are in deep, way over their heads. Doom lurks in the Cupertino headquarters.

it's certainly hard to tell. it seems that a lot of people have been getting them but the numbers and reseller reports tell otherwise.

Well, think about it this way. Has anyone really needed to wait more than 6-7 weeks for their iMac? All of the posts that I have seen about order/recieved dates seem to be around 5 weeks. Soooo, since Announced at the end of Jan. that there were 150k sold, and since very few people seem to have waited more than six weeks, I think that it's a good indication that 150k+ units have been shipped to the people that preorded the iMac.

I think everybody is just blowing this whole thing about shipments out of proportion (5,000 - give me a break!). Hopefully mine comes soon (going on week four now).

Back to the main topic, I definately think that we can see an iPod update. Another iAppliance would be great, but the digital camera area seems to be over-saturated already with products, and a hard drive would just suck battery life for most users. I personally think that there may be a spot for a good DV camera (and all the better if it has a Hard Drive and a good CCD for photos), but I'm not holding my breath.

Great Adam. I look forward to them already (redundant comment? <img src="graemlins/embarrassed.gif" border="0" alt="[Embarrassed]" />

Anyway, do post and keep us up to date on Tokyo. Wish I could be there, but I won't get to Japan this year until May.
