This makes sense since Microsoft's product schedules don't really fit into CES.

you're right. Apple doesn't usually release stuff around CES anymore, so the photo copiers wait around a bit more now. Yes, it was the token stab at MS. We all know someone was going to make it

Don't forget, Bill Gates is still Chairman. Gates and Ballmer need to step away from Microsoft completely, and the Board and C-level management needs to be cleaned out. There's no other option at this stage. We're going into 2012 and it's iOS and Android all the way. Sure, Windows and Office will grind along, but Xbox360/720(?) is the only consumer-focused product that has (a) any kind of reasonable track record and (b) a future.

Seems like a good idea. Apple have shown its much better to have your own events so that you can do a public annoncement to consumers when products are actually ready, rather than annunce things because that's when the event is and then wait 5 months.

Oddly though Apple seem to be doing the opposite, they still have there own events but more often than not they've started announcing products way in advance of actually delivering. e.g. iCloud was announced months before release. I remember the days way Steve used to demo the new iPhoto and then end with "and it's availiable today" for me to then log onto the Apple store site and buy it. Bring back the good days guys, you had it perfect, stop worrying about the share price dropping because you don't mention anything for months.
