Reply 5 of 78 ghost_user_name Posts: 22,667member March 22, 2002 5:13PM The NAB is the National Association of Broadcasters. Alogn with Show West, it's one of the broadcasting conventions to make sure you go to. Damn it for being in Vegas though... I always stayed at the Holiday Inn, a block off the strip; only hotel in that damned city without a slot machine.I haven't been since I left Turner, but seeing as how the G4 was unveiled at Seybold, why not unveil the G5 at the NAB? *shrugs* Reply 6 of 78 mattyj Posts: 898member March 23, 2002 4:49PM When is the NAB show held? Reply 7 of 78 bodhi Posts: 1,424member March 23, 2002 4:50PM Excuse me but what business at all does Apple have to announce a brand new processing architecture at the NAB show?Let's look at the alternatives...WWDC in May.MWNY in 4 months.Seybold in 5 months. Why would Apple choose NAB? Somewhere they have never announced something, especially something as significant as a new processor.Ohhhh...this is why: [quote]I am still here.Well. Things begin to happen. I am glad to see it.Next step will be at NAB at Apr 8th.Let me ask a question! Why Apple choose 23inch TFT-LCD Monitor as Cinma HD ?it does not have any input for HDTV reception.Or will it be ?

Kormac has been saying there will be announcements at NAB for three years now and it has never ever happened. Reply 8 of 78 willoughby Posts: 1,457member March 23, 2002 6:04PM I believe this.....except it will be NAB 2003 Reply 9 of 78 cdhostage Posts: 1,038member March 23, 2002 7:53PM I don't get it?A brand-new super duper Macintosh, not revealed at an Apple-centric convention? I would think Apple would want everything undre tight control. Reply 10 of 78 bodhi Posts: 1,424member March 23, 2002 8:02PM The G4 came out at Seybold. I think we will see the G5 at MWNY. Reply 11 of 78 jccbin Posts: 476member March 23, 2002 10:47PM "No new cpu's.... we're set for some months now."I'd love it, but Apple as much as says NOT Reply 12 of 78 tarbash Posts: 278member March 24, 2002 1:47AM Maybe a QT6 situation update, some more demos, but I don't think we'll see a G5 until MWNY. NAB just isn't a fitting event for a G5 announcement. Seybold was perfect for the G4, since it was a graphics design based event and the G4 sped up apps like Photoshop immensely. At NAB, I really don't see why they would choose to roll out the product. A special event would be more likely if it comes before MWNY, but I doubt it. Reply 13 of 78 nigel_t Posts: 1member March 24, 2002 7:55AM Hey dudes:Been watching this thread for a while and This is a real possibility. For you other guys who don't know much about video & film NAB is the biggest worldwide convention where most new wares from the biggest companies are released or previewed. Now, since apple has stated its intention to eventually become a heavyweight in the highend video and film biz with the purchase of Nothing Real this could actually make alot of sense.Lets also relive the last few weeks events:1. Apple buys Nothing Real and says It is going to stop development for Winblows & Irix but will continue developing for Linux and will port to OS X.2. Motorola licensened Red Hat to make a version Linux to run on PPC's.My guess is that Moto & IBM & Apple are going to make some big sever type things based on the G5 with like 8 & 12 processors, like SGI, Which can be used in render farms and stuff like that, and the power macs will be the front end since OS X and Linux will be able to talk to each other easily. That's my two cents.Nigel Reply 14 of 78 mattyj Posts: 898member March 24, 2002 8:12AM This would be the ideal time to release the G5, apple would have the first 64bit chip out for consumers, and from what I understand NAB is a big show. So, apple maybe going back on their no cpus qoute, but think about it, what would be better, not going back on your word, or doing that and suprizing everyone, EVEN the rumour sites? That would be apple's style, and what a way to introduce the G5. It would certainly shut up those wintel and AMD users. Reply 15 of 78 walrusjb Posts: 34member March 24, 2002 8:37AM To be short - no way in hell. What does make sense, given the focus of the conference, is to show any progress made on industry aquisitions...Someone already mentioned Nothing Real, but we've also got the Spruce buyout (pretty quiet one at that) from last year - more hyping of FCP3, etc. We may see DVD Studio Pro rolled out here, OTOH. And if it puled in some Spruce functionality it'd be all the better. I haven;t seen this Beta that;s floating around, though - I don't know if it's close enough to Shipping Quality Product (TM) to make the cut. This **is not** the forum for a processor release. Hell, BDA would make more sense than NAB. No one is going to NAB to seriously scope out purchasing on the hardware end, and even if they were, Apple would be **Seriously** outgunned here. No way they could grab the mindshare they'd need o na processor release to generate the necessary buzz.Think, then speak - especially if recommending wagering. Reply 16 of 78 murk Posts: 935member March 24, 2002 9:36AM [quote]Originally posted by the cool gut:Take it to the bank, bet the farm?

Sorry, but I already mortgaged the farm and bet it on Apple stock on the recommendations of my financial advisors at Dorsal, Kormac and Codename, Inc.. The G5, along with a preview of what they are doing with Nothing Real's assets would be a great way to appeal to this market and possibly increase their market share. Considering that the bookmakers says that there is only one chance for a gazillion for that release, i will be very, very rich if it happens ...
