Samsung apparently has a special event planned for March. I wouldn't be surprised since it's just another way to mimic Apple.
Maybe Samsung will announce a consolidation in the number of units to be released. Even one every 2 months would still be a huge reduction.
Or perhaps they will start to release the same model across all carriers in all countries to best Apple in the most sold by model category. I think that would actually be a smart marketing tactic.
Or perhaps they will announce a forking of Android that will support Android Market apps but all support Samsung Market apps that are vetted much like the App Store is.
Because its a true fact. Samsung will continue its meteoric rise. Apple at this point moving forward will never regain that crown again.
I wouldn't count on any certain outcomes in this race. The category is still young and growing. It will mature within a few years, and a few years after that, our current crop of smartphones will seem comically obsolete.
Apple is likely to continue to do very well. Nobody should bet against M$ with any confidence. Nokia may do OK concentrating on their existing markets, and maybe even in the US.
Like Nokia, I can see HTC leaning more and more towards Win Mobile. LG may end up doing the same thing. Eventually we may see WinMobile gain some real traction just because of sheer numbers... the same strategy being used by Android today.
Agreed

[... and Bing begins to gain ground on Google... wouldn't that be a shocker]
I've already switched to doing most of my searching with Bing - I find the results far more relevant and far less ad influenced. Far fewer link baiting "farm" sites than currently plauge google.
It may not remain that way forever, but I'm taking advantage of it while it lasts!

DuckDuckGo give me better result than Bing. Too bad I can't set it to default search on browser so I settle on Bing (both PC, Mac & iDevices).
Looking at the holiday quarter, which normally spikes sales of all kinds of products including electronics, I don’t think Samsung was the hot Christmas gift!

I use Bing for the same reason (not quite as good as Google used to be, but close, and about equal to how Google is now). But DuckDuckGo does have some options for appearing in your browser’s default search bar (on Mac/PC, not iDevices sadly). They’re on the bottom-right of DuckDuckGo’s home page. I haven’t tried those methods because they sound a little cumbersome, but I may. For now, I just make DuckDuckGo my home page on all new windows/tabs, and try to get in the habit of using it instead of the default search bar! I do like DuckDuckGo so far. Better results for programming topics than Bing delivers, for one thing.

Samsung is indeed the only company that didn't see a decline, according to that graph. As for Apple 'never regain that crown'... Now that is over the top! They'll sell less iPhones during the next, non holiday quarter, which is to be expected. Then again, it's quite likely they will release a new iPad, resulting in new graphs, nothing like this one, no doubt.

Actually Apple's iPhone has a history — last two years in a row — of selling even more units after the holiday quarter, only dropping right before the release of the next iPhone. This might be due to a contracted device being difficult to give as a Christmas gift and/or well placed release dates for other markets. I think China Unicom will get the iPhone 4S this quarter.

Perhaps it's the announcement of the Galaxy SIII.

Gotta love those true facts. They beat false and bogus facts any day.

Cumulative numbers
Samsung > Apple
Wow. That's a lot of baristas.
Samsung apparently has a special event planned for March.
At which they will announce "Just one more Apple-like thing."

Let's hope they stop short of cloning Steve.

I can't stand when a scientist fudges facts. Of all people I think I hold scientists to a higher standard to accuracy than anyone else.

That episode worse than many because it actually raised the hopes of people with life-threatening conditions only to have them dashed.

Samsung's quarter - normal 13 weeks
Apple's quarter - 14 weeks

Your point being? When Samsung releases some actual numbers, then we can talk about Apple 'padding' theirs.
