agreed, $299 would be perfect to disrupt the Amazon Kindle Fire.
No, Apple couldn't care less about that. It's not a tablet in the same sense as the iPad. To lower the price to $299 would be to legitimize its existence.
When the iPad SELLS OUT at $499, there's ZERO reason to take it to $299, save to legitimize "competition" when they don't have a freaking chance to begin with.
Nope. They will maintain the current price point. If they couldn't, they wouldn't release it yet.
Agreed. If they make iPad3 starting at $599? That'd be the biggest mistake of AAPL since Tim took over.
Yes the screen is costly, and will probably squeeze the margin a bit in the beginning. But let's face it, with Kindle Fire at $199, iPad3 starting at $599 would be 3 times the price of the Fire.
As of Ipad2? $299 might be too cheap for the loyal AAPL fans, but it's also necessary. I mean, who would buy iPad2 at $399 when iPad3 is only $499?
The same people that buy a base model MacBook Air when the next one is only $100 more.
The same people that buy a base model iPod touch when the next one is only $100 more.
The same people that buy a base model iPhone when the next one is only $100 more.
The same people that buy a base model iPad when the next one is only $100 more.
The same people that buy a base model iPod nano when the next one is only $20 more.
You're trying to be misleading. We're talking about a better display for iPad3, that's a huge improvement compared to iPad2, and you are only paying $100 more. MacBook Air, seriously you get a slightly better processor, and? I mean, functionally speaking there's no difference. same for iPod/iPhone when the only difference is storage, which people don't even think it's worth the price difference. If you can't understand the difference between a those improvements, you need a brain doctor.

Mark my words, people will still buy the iPad 2 in droves at a $100 price reduction. A $200 drop goes against Apple's pricing structure for all the past iOS device releases in addition to the point I've already made about legitimization.
And really, Apple doesn't WANT to keep selling the iPad 2. They want to sell the iPad 3.
Do you think Apple's upset that the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 make up such a small portion of the total iPhone sales right now? I doubt it.

It has to be at Keats 349$, 299 will be the perfect price to hold off cheap android tablets both in the consumer market and education...
I'll "Thirty-Love" that as I don't think a 40% discount is Apple-style. Never mind that do that sometimes, like Aperture v1.0, but for a hardware product that is already selling so well I think $399 is a good guess.
And no to a $599 iPad 3rd gen. That would be over the top, even for Apple. Some people are still in recession, unlike some CE companies¡

Apple will continue the 2. There is no way of knowing how much if anything they will drop it by. If it is only $50 these guys will feel silly.
If the 3 has the screen everyone is hoping, it will be at a higher price point than the 2 is currently.
Nope. They will maintain the current price point. If they couldn't, they wouldn't release it yet.
$299...
$399. "Fifteen-Love!"

When it already sells out at $499, how is it 'necessary'?

I don't know what Keats is; it doesn't show up? Oh, 'at least'. At least? which way? High or low?
It doesn't matter how cheap the iPad 2 is if it's only the 16GB model?that will be virtually worthless for textbooks.
Oh, here's an idea?
The iPad 2 is kept on at $399? but it's the 64GB model. Apple will still make money on every one sold.
Then the iPad 3 comes in at 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.
There's your reason to keep buying it, even though that's not their intent, anyway.

Well, sure, there'll be one. It'll just be the second capacity size up the scale (32/64).
