I thought about that as well, but it really isn't that humongous as I thought it would be. My Garmin is loaded with 'City Navigator Europe' and I loaded the whole DVD on my unit. Eventhough it is 'designed for cars', i.e. highways and such, using the maps while on my racing bicycle it shows almost every bicycle road. So the level of detail is there, yet the map is 3GB, for all of Europe.
That said, that Garmin hardware is one piece of junk. Most ridiculous piece o crap, ever invented, freaking annoying, doesn't quite work as a touchscreen device, fonts hard to read, software is... I don't know, proves MS doesn't have a monopoly in releasing utter crap software. Garmin Oregon 550T - don't buy.
