You can expect anything from the obese apple corporate monster these days. When you censor something like this with j******k you attract even more attention to it, sheer idiocy. At least they 've not censored paranoid android yet, that's something.
Anyway why would apple have an issue with jailbreaking? It's their beta testing community and the ideas they don't allow they later come to steal (volume buttons for camera) giving the jailbreakers no credit.
jailbreaking is the first step towards theft. if you didnt know a jailbroken phone can download all apps for free then you are misinformed. I only repeat this to amplify the message: Jailbreaking is the first step towards theft. It is equivalent to disconnecting the odometer on you car, not unlocking your house.
There's a couple of reasons why Apple would oppose jailbreaking.
By requiring certification by Apple, it reduces the number of destructive apps. It gives Apple a chance to make sure that viruses or other apps that could steal information or disable your phone, even by accident, are far less likely to hurt end users.
It reduces the ability for end users to steal apps and content.
It protects Apple's 30% revenue stream on every sold app. Some of Apple's actions seem to indicate that this is a VERY important motivator for them.
I don't know, but I suspect that the major reason is that jailbroken phones are a security issue. There was a security storm last year about how unsafe the iPhone was, but on further investigation, it was only jailbroken iPhones that had a problem. So jail breaking creates a major PR problem for Apple.

Yeah, well I am aware of all that. If they find theft so appalling at apple maybe they shouldn't be stealing other peoples' ideas like the click volume to shoot camera. Anyway the idea to censor jailbreak a la j.....k is stupid anyway you look at it. What do you want me to say that it's a clever one? It's inane. Either don't allow mention of jailbreak in app descriptions at all, or allow it. To put j****k you just draw attention to it. Imagine if ms or google had inadvertently censored a thin lizzy song... Another stupid idea in a series of stupid ideas from apple lately.
I just really hope Apple can't stop Jail-Break, it's the best thing going for the iOS platform. Without the ability to do what you want on a device that you own would suck beyond belief.
On (US) site now. Not seeing what is being reported above.

Tempest in a teapot. I guess the Apple-haters have nothing better to whine about today.
I think the deal is that if you go directly to the albums (or search for, say, "Thin Lizzy"), it's not censored.
Type "Jailbreak" into the search box (note that what you typed was never censored, EWT, just the auto-complete suggestions), and those same track names are now censored.
You have to explicitly search for jailbreak for things with jailbreak in the title to be censored.
That's why I'm still saying the most interesting take home is that this shows us how Apple's iTMS programmers work rather than anything particularly interesting about jailbreaking. For those few who think this is protecting consumers, you're crazy. You still find the stuff with jailbreak in the title. It just has asterisks.

The bolded is not correct. I typed 'jailbreak' into the search box and the search terms and the search results were all completely spelled out.
It just looks like it's a glitch that was fixed and will take time to propagate through the servers and replace the cached (censored) version.

I think it is even more important for Apple to protect the 70% the developers get.
I'm glad they did this. Apple is taking steps to protect their consumers from the underground community. Like others, I also don't believe this is real censorship.
It doesn't matter that jailbreaks lead to app piracy - Apple must stand on the higher moral ground and deal with it the right way, and that lazy word filter (WHICH IS CENSORSHIP, BTW) is anything BUT the right way to do it.
I don't care if the goal was to block only apps, that's still a stupid, draconian move by Apple and every time they do shit like that, they are giving credit to idiots that demonize them.

It sounds more likely a mistake rather than a glitch.

Agreed. I'd be willing to bet that this is an error that originated in the IT department or very low within the organization (whomever has access to the list of naughty words configuration file). The VPs likely only heard about it after the fact (and were pissed), and are now asking questions about lack of controls on such things.
I can hear some poor schlub saying "but I heard [insert VP name here] say 'jailbreak is a dirty word,' so I added it to the list. How was I supposed to know?"
Why is it always either/or with Americans? There is more than just black and white or good and evil.

It is not a "logical fallacy" or a "hyperbolic generalisation". The idea that one should have a system of le capitalism sauvage is a particularly American (in the United States sense) concept. It seems always to be Americans suggesting that if one does not approve of something that an enterprise does then the response is not to buy anything from it, as if there were only all or nothing approaches.
It is not that all Americans are black and white thinkers. However, this black/white approach to business, the economy and regulation and the analysis that is no deeper than the first degree seems to be advocated only by Americans. For someone to pretend not to understand that American refers to United States in this context is disingenuous.

You've got to be joking.
