That's what folks like Scully and Modine might want to think but for all we know if Steve Jobs hadn't been fired, the current line up could have still failed...
The point is that there would likely not be the current line-up if Steve Jobs had not been fired.
Getting the boot forced him to do things he might not have done otherwise.
IIRC, this is along the lines of what Steve said in Isaacson's book.
This guy is completely wrong. He thinks that John Sculley put Jobs on the fast track? News flash Tom Brokaw, Steve Jobs was a force that could not be stopped; his success had nothing - absolutely nothing to do with John Sculley.
I don't think you can prove your point, or prove that Modine is wrong. In fact, we can be sure you cannot prove it. The only facts are the historical ones, establishing causality: Jobs's triumphant return to Apple came after ouster by Sculley.
That's really an example of causality rather than butterfly effect.
Sculley's firing of Jobs didn't cause him to start Pixar and NeXT, but his action did afford Jobs the desire to do so where he wouldn't have otherwise.
