But even if they hadn't there are still plenty of play on words he did approve of. Does no one remember Thinnovation from 2008 for the MBA? I didn't until it was mentioned to me.

I love the silly wordplays Apple indulges in. They are in some ways humanising. Didn't they do one for some revision of the Mac Pro too?

When Apple's banners start seeming like they hired Steve Balmer as their copywriter, you know they are in trouble.

"Where great ideas go on to do great things"?  What, these ideas were doing shit before and now they can do "great things?"  Ideas actually do stuff?  Ideas are sentient now?

What utter nonsense.  Even in the context of "ad speak" this is absolute meaningless drivel. It's embarrassingly bad copy.  And this from the biggest company on the planet that can hire the best advertising talent on the planet if they wish to.  Bleh.

Bingo - full marks for guessing it right. Everyone else, complaining about a bad tagline, etc, just wait till the event is over, and then you can have your two minutes to eat your words.

I expect the following announcements related to Siri - firstly, Apple will launch a couple of big partnerships that are entirely based on Siri - I mean, Apple's end of the bargain will be Siri, while the partner brings everything else. One of these partnerships is going to be in travel reservations - and expect one of Apple's big guns to talk to his phone saying "Siri, book me and my wife on a flight to Hawaii as soon as this conference is over" - and Siri will know what conference it is, when it is over, by looking at your calendar, know what flight to book you on based on your frequent flyer history, know how to bill you using your Apple account, and of course know your's and your wife's names and travel preferences.

The second major announcement is going to be about Maps, and integrating Siri with Maps. While Maps by itself is going to be a major improvement over what is currently offered in iOS, Siri integration will make it awesome. The other features of Maps might not yet be at a level where one would consider it better than Google's offering in Android - but Siri might just be the factor that tips the scales in favor of Apple. Turn by turn navigation will be much better when you don't have to fiddle with your phone while driving, and can set it going by just talking to it.

The most important announcement (for the developers), would be related to a new Siri API - how you can interface your Apps to Siri. There was a time when Google came up with an idea to make billions out of ordinary English words. Now it is Apple's turn to make billions selling words to App developers - how much would you pay, to direct queries for "movies" to your App? Or queries for "restaurants"? This is gold for App developers, and also for Apple.

I think that's exactly what they'll announce, looked at the tagline and the apps, it fits perfectly.

Guess you're not the target market...

"Apple‘s new Siri campaign starring Samuel L. Jackson and Zooey Deschanel drew the ire of Ad Age TV Editor Brian Steinberg this week, but consumers turn out to love them. If you believe ad effectiveness company Ace Metrix, in fact, they’re rejuvenating the Apple brand.

The two ads were the most effective ads to debut in the week ending April 20, according to the company. They were also the second- and third-most effective mobile phone commercials of the week by Ace Metrix measures, right behind Samsung‘s Galaxy Note campaign, which has been airing since February and was the most effective ad of the quarter.

Apple’s two new ads are also indexing well above Apple’s prior recent work, which “had been falling rather flat,” according to Ace Metrix CEO Peter Daboll."

I could spin that banner to be about color and high-resolution screens. RGB pixels to no pixels going left to right.

Which is inline with a comment I made last week about Apple's 16x9 iPhone and resolution independence. Apple's future is all about the screen...

Nice find. I didn't think of that. I was speculating may be an app store for Apple TV

iPod silhouette commercials didn't show the product, which made it strong for me. They didn't even display the company name, just their logo. That was strong!

True... but they did show a person wearing earbuds listening to music.

After all... that's what an MP3 player does... it plays music.

I don't think you really need to explain it any better. :-)

Apple's commercials are different depending on the product:

    - iPod commercials showed people dancing to music (and it must have worked considering the domination the iPod had in the MP3 player market
    - the Mac vs PC commercials explained the differences between Windows PCs and Macs
    - iPhone commercials showed what the iPhone can do
    - iPad commercials showed what the iPad can do
