Apple Insider just got one of the images. 9 to 5 Mac got 9 new images (and yes antkm1, these are new images never seen before). The first image in front of the giant glass wall is amazing. I'm an electrical engineer and would give my left leg to work on this project.

I think Steve and Apple jumped the shark with this building.
I feel the design says "keep out, you are in or you are out, and we are at the center of the universe."
The current campus design is friendly.
No wonder so many people are vociferously anti-Apple. Which is fine. Can't please everyone and Apple's passions are bound to irritate some, as they always have!
So, from a social and psychological standpoint, I don't feel they should build this spaceship.

Disclaimer: I and my family members have used Apple products for decades, although we keep an open mind. It's just hard to find alternative hardware that is as good as Apple

Their current campus says that. You can't just be on it without purpose.
Is the land around Apple Campus 2 open to the public? If yes, your position is unfounded. If no, it's still unfounded, as that's how nearly all company industrial parks are. This one's just far prettier.

I speak not of rules about being on private property. Architecture can be a statement about structures and their reflection and commentary about society.
Maybe SJ simply saw his building as a statement of completeness with himself. Could go back to his biological parents' abandonment of him. He was definitely driven by that abandonment and the new HQ could be his closure. It was the last thing he worked on, based on reports.

Hmm.. I think he's circumstances, personality and drive can very easily make an argument in favour of abandonment issues but I've never heard Jobs, himself, make sure statements to that effect so anything we could possibly say on the matter would be opinion with no factual evidence, just circumstantial evidence to its most literal usage.
I think one could argue that Apple is still keeping with their current facility's 1 Infinite Loop, but instead of it being a continuous loop or a road with multiple building within the building is now a loop. I also think one could argue that it's merely an iconic design because it is atypical among buildings, especially large ones. It's also using a huge amount of glass, but not just any glass but an evolutionary step of the glass they first used as a cube and then as a cylinder in China.
Glass panels of that size aren't easy to make but making them curved makes it even more tricky. They could just use flat panels that are slightly angled when placed and would give the effect on such a large structure but I seem to recall the glass itself will be curved.
Or, maybe it's just a literaly variation of Tolkien's phrase: One ring[ed structure] to rule them all.

The 7 stages of fandroid denial:
1. Denial. "They didn't copy."
2. Guilt. "Everyone copies everyone else."
3. Strawman. "So Apple thinks they own the rectangle?"
4. Justification. "Apple's patents are now 'standards essential.' Seize them."
5. Bargaining. "But Apple's patent are not valid."
6. Blame. "The jury foreman is biased."
7. Spin. "Innovation not litigation."
Here it is finished.

Seriously, AI, blocking links to other tech sites?

Not by our choice. Huddler does that alongside swearing. And it's just 9to5Mac.

I think I see a particle accelerator in there.
