There will never be 'free to use' autonomous cars... Either you'll have to buy one, the car manufacturer will license the technology, or you'll pay a fare like a taxi cab. Advertisements are already all over public transportation, and I don't know about the cost where you live, but here it's far from free....
Why not? There are already shared car and bike services in some cities. The only change will be that the car will COME TO YOU instead of you going to it!
Oh, you mean free-free. I dunno. Google manages by selling your personal information. Who says they can't plaster the car with ads? And then have for-pay services.
You want heat or AC? Pop in some quarters. You want to listen to a radio station that isn't designed to be pure advertising? Pop in some quarters. You want that stuff free and free to choose? Buy your own self-driving car.
I think some people would be quite happy with that.
