It's a direct quote, so I set it apart in a quote box for coherency. It's written as stream of consciousness (which is how he likely came up with it in the first place), so I use the word lightly. There's not a lot of grammar in what he originally said, so I can't fix it very much.

Same reason politicians send gifts to other politicians, often having taxpayers pay, maybe?

No doubt you would, I would expect no less idiocy from you.

Question: Why don't you jump ship, since you're completely convinced Apple's current devices/direction/decisions are shit? There's other options out there. Buy something else, instead of endlessly trolling and parroting your tired talking points. If Apple had the same aversion to change that you do, they would have been buried a long time ago. You're not insightful, independent thinking, or clever. You're just narrow-minded and incessantly stubborn. Get over yourself. The 30pin dock connector is ancient, and way overdue for a change. Devices will not longer be hobbled by it. Fucking deal with it.

Because unlike the people who like to call me an idiot, I'm smart enough to not fall for the mistake of making my opinions part of my identity. I'm not a fundamentalist, I own the best two iOS devices ever conceived and am pretty happy with them. Perhaps the day the time comes to replace them I may decide to jump ship should Apple still be misguided.

Care to explain exactly why the Dock Connector was long overdue? Because I don't recall any real complaints about it... The switch brought a lot of inconvenience for very little benefit; the new connector is not exactly Firewire or Thunderbolt.

Apple has always been the first to get rid of outdated technology.  5.25" floppies, 3.5" floppies, PS/2 Ports, Parallel ports, VGA, Optical drives, and there are many I have missed.  The dock connector is too big, not fast enough and has way too many extra pins that are not necessary, and waste space inside the device that can be used for components which add value.  The connector can achieve USB 3 speeds which the old one could not, and is probably the connector for the next many years.  Apple made the decision to replace it.  If not now, when?  1 year?  5 years?  When would be a suitable time to replace a 10 year old connector designed for the iPod, a very different device?

I wonder what would happen if Google was just Google Search. Without Android, would Apple and Google still be BFF?

The difference is that those were dumped for obsolescence as there were better alternatives to all of them. This is not the case for the Dock Connector, it was not obsolete, there is no alternative to stream video out of a device with a Lightning Connector.

What? The Dock Connector has a Firewire 800 port! How's that not fast enough? Also, unnecessary pins? Did you know many of those pins actually had overloaded functionality because there weren't enough pins for everything?

This is nonsense. USB 3.0 is both forward and backward compatible, and the Dock Connector had more than enough pins to support any additional conductors required by later standards.

It's not a question of time, it's a question of obsolescence. Is there anything else as convenient as the dock connector providing either the same or better functionality? NO! Then it's not the right time to replace it!

You think way too high of yourself in thinking that someone would actually waste money on you.

I've actually been in a similar situation in the past. Received an iPod in 2005 from my employer, immediately gave it away to a coworker because Apple was not really my thing at the time.

Exactly. Imagine 5 years from now when we are all here debating the new Apple social app that they just replaced the FaceBook app ...

Yet. They're going to have to figure out some way to actually make money one of these days.

But If you think this is what makes Google dangerous, then you need some enlightenment. I'll give you a hint ... The same thing That makes Google dangerous is the same thing that makes FaceBook dangerous ...

but how long would the 30 pin connector be forward compatible? You eventually have to replace it. the  new connector is a better alternative just like USB was a better alternative to the ADB. Just like 3.5" floppy replaced the 5 1/4.

How nice, he has a driver so he don't need great mapping.

I'd actually argue that the Dock Connector was better suited for forward compatibility than the Lightning Connector due to lack of conductors. The Lightning Connector has 9 conductors, exactly the amount required for USB 3.0; if a new standard needs even more, there's nothing you can do. The Dock Connector, however, has plenty of functionality that can be disabled when you're connected to USB, in essence allowing you to dedicate up to 28 pins to any future standards.

    Huh!?

Which is it -- the dock connector doesn't have enough pins for everything, or it has more than enough pins to accommodate everything you need?
