Apple begins shipping first orders of new iPod touch, iPod nano
Customers on Tuesday began receiving word that their order for the new fifth-generation iPod touch and seventh-generation iPod nano has shipped and should arrive in the next week [updated]
Readers who received shipping notifications shared with AppleInsider on Tuesday that their orders for the new iPod touch have now shipped from China and are en route to the U.S. Estimated deliveries for standard shipping are before next Monday, Oct. 15.
One reader who provided detailed information on their shipment revealed that the package has been shipped via FedEx from one of the shipper's origin facilities in Kunshan, China. That order was placed on Sept. 14.
Update: Readers also began sending word Tuesday morning that their iPod nano orders have also begun to ship from China. Those units are also scheduled to arrive by next Monday.
The shipments come as Apple has also posted the official user's guide for the new iPod touch on its iBookstore. The fifth-generation media player features a taller 4-inch display, just like the new iPhone 5.
The first shipments being sent out on Tuesday confirms a rumor from last week that claimed the iPod touch would officially go on sale this week. Apple has been taking orders for the new iPod touch since last month, but the company has only promised a shipping timeframe of October.
Supply of the new iPods is said to be limited at launch. The iPod touch and iPhone 5 share the same 4-inch Retina display, and supply of the iPhone 5 has been constrained since it debuted in September.

I had just seen this, and not two minutes later, I received an email from Apple that my personalized Product(Red) Nano has shipped.
Ugh! According to the Japanese unboxing videos, both the iPod Touch 5 and Nano 7 are shipped with earpods without a remote and mic! Why the hell would Apple skimp on this?

Apple has never shipped earphones with a remote and a mike with anything but the iPhone, ever.

I beg to differ. The buttonless shuffle DEFINITELY shipped with the earbuds with remote.

If you want to be picky yoiu said with remote and mike ! but that is the only iPod to have a remote, and that only because the buttons were on the headphones.
I got the shipping notification today too. Mine order delivers on October 11th, 2012 but i have placed it on September 14th. About a month (long long month) late and not a moment too soon.
It's nostalgic and lovely.
And one thing I noticed is that when plugged in, the new Nano immediately shows up as a removable drive.
I don't know where this rumor started. My 3rd gen iPod touch which I got in Feb. 2010 came with remote/mic earbuds
Just to be sure that my memory isn't faulty, I did a quick search for a review of the third gen iPod touch, and lo and behold...
"Packaged with the Touch is an Apple universal dock connector USB cable, a pair of white earbuds that include a microphone and remote control on the cable, and a molded universal dock insert to use with any charging or speaker accessories."
