    iPad Mini?

    What iPad Mini?

What's interesting is just how long iPad Mini rumours are going to persist and how far they'll go. Even so, another week or so, surely to God, this nonsense will stop. Right?

If Apple makes a smaller iPad that isn't cheap, it probably won't be popular anyway. Everyone knows the Chinese economy is all about cheap prices, not necessarily quality goods. Price is paramount.

They compared it to the Samsung Note which sells for around $500.

Well yeah, but that was only one device.  The report was predicated on Chinese consumers "eagerness to adopt devices with mid-range screen sizes" (in general).  At least that's how I read it.  Anyway, it was just an observation.  China *is* focussed on price.

Overall this is probably just another BS "analyst" day-dream.

Just about any luxury brand is going to be popular in China and those brands are usually considerably more expensive there. For example Ferraris sold in China are second only to the US and not by that much, which is all the more remarkable when you consider that the costs are approximately double in China for the same exact car.

What I don't understand is how this Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets has become the go to guy on all things Apple. He appears not actually know anything, and his greatest accomplishment appears to be putting a $1001 price target on AAPL back in the early spring.

Exactly! This guy flies to China, talks to a few people in
his hotel lobby, and is suddenly an expert on the Chinese market.

Of course, the Chinese will buy a bunch of Kotex Minipads, uhm..., I meant the women. Ipad Mini? I'm sorry, what? With the 7" tablet models of android's Chinese variants sold for about USD100-USD150 each, the Chinese WILL DEFINITELY BUY Apple's Ipad Minis with the same internal hardware and crappy screens, much like Android ones, but cost almost THREE TIMES as much. Yupe, definitely, the Chinese loves to flaunt their riches to buy yesterday's technology.

You just love it when an anal-ist poses as an analyst to pump the share price.

I think that apple ipad mini event is supposed to be October 10th. but it's already 12th now. what happened? see, greedy apple can't even make sample by itself. they canceled the event. pathetic. stock will go down more deeply. just forget about freaking mini. it won't be successful in 7 inch market.

They must be a reason China likes Galaxy Note, otherwise Galaxy Tab 7" will become hot selling. What is the difference between iPad mini and Tab 7" to draw a conclusion that iPad will sell like wild fire?

It could be vaporware.  But it would be a missed opportunity to remove the price window for non-subsidized 7" tablets.  With the Kindle Fire and Google Nexus the 7" market has a small premium window for Android makers.  Enter a reasonably priced iPad Mini and that kills that window.

It's more important now than before because a medium quality 7" android tablet for $150 will keep Apple from dominating tablets like they did with iPods if there is no iPad mini.  The current iPod touch alone is probably not up to the task.

Better to cannibalize your own sales than let Amazon and Google do it.  A fire or nexus is more compelling than the iPod Touch 5G come XMas.  Much better they be the booby prize gift that cheap parents got instead of the coveted iPad Mini.

The iOS tablet ecosystem in a less expensive and smaller device.  There's a limit to how many iPads I want to buy every year since I tend to get the top end 3G model.

I could buy the iPad 2 as secondary tablet but currently that role is filled by a Kindle Fire which fits my wife's handbag better than the full sized iPad anyway.  For a family of 4 a pair of iPhones, an iPad and a couple iPad minis is a pretty good mix.

The iPod Touch is iffy...I let my kids play with my old iPhone 4 instead since I want to keep one as a backup in case we break one of the primary phones.
