Apple issues Xcode 4.5.2 developer preview, updates to Logic and photo apps

Apple on Wednesday released a number of software updates, including a pre-release version Xcode, new versions of Logic Pro and Logic Express, and digital camera compatibility additions for the company's photo editing apps.

According to people familiar with the pre-release version of Apple's updated development environment, version 4.5.2 brings fixes to reported LLDB crashes as well as improved stability of Interface Builder's "Autolayout" and "Storyboards."

Also said to patched is a memory leak and debugging problems experienced when Xcode's iOS simulator is manually shut down. Finally, a bug that caused the program to stall when submitting an app to the iOS App Store has reportedly been fixed.

As of this writing, Apple has yet to send out emails regarding the pre-release update, however developers can access the new version of Xcode through the company's developer website.

Logic

Logic Pro


Both Logic Pro and Logic express were updated to version 9.1.8, bringing stability refinements and bug fixes to Apple's music creation tool.

  • Fixes an issue that caused an AirPlay dialog to repeatedly appear.
  • Resolves performance issues when using plug-ins that provide frequent graphic feedback.

This update is recommended for all users of Logic Pro 9.
Logic Pro 9.1.8 weighs in at 195.66MB and can be downloaded through the Mac App Store or Apple's Support Downloads webpage.

Logic Express


From the Logic Express release notes:

This update addresses overall stability and performance issues including:
  • Fixes an issue that caused an AirPlay dialog to repeatedly appear.
  • Resolves performance issues when using plug-ins that provide frequent graphic feedback.
This update is recommended for all users of Logic Express 9.
Logic Express 9.1.8 comes in at 139.92MB and can be downloaded through Software Update or Apple Support Downloads webpage.

Digital camera RAW compatibility

Finally, Apple released a compatibility update for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11 covering RAW image files from a number of digital cameras like the Canon EOS M and Nikon 1 J2.
