If Apple was so great, why dont they make it themselves?
Because that would be stupid. Paying for the infrastructure to build the factories would be very expensive, and Apple would have to pass the cost on to consumers. Further, Apple got out of manufacturing for a variety or reasoning including it is easier on its earnings to not have to account for manufacturing operations. It is more smart to partner with an established player who already has some infrastructure. That is exactly what Apple did. Apple invested a 100 million dollars back in 1999 to help build Samsung's LCD operations. For what it is worth Dell invested 200 million for the same deal Apple got for 100 million. Part of the reason Samsung is able to meet Apple's demands better than some of the other competition is Apple partnered with Samsung a long time ago.
The multi- national companies are having battle over the technological advancement. it is indeed hard to guess who will win over it. but this can be said that ultimately the customers will profit from that.

Just think about the sheer production volume. Few companies can provide the capacity and quality assurance. The world has not seen such scale before.
