Black Friday: Apple cuts $101 off MacBooks but much better deals lie at authorized resellers [u]

Apple on Thursday launched its Black Friday sale on Macs, offering $101 of MacBooks. But customers in the market for the lowest prices will have better luck at the company's authorized resellers, which offer much deeper discounts.

All of the prices can be seen in the our Mac Price Guide (a portion of which is below). The lowest prices are in bold typeface and the total discount from Apple's MSRP is in red typeface. By using the links in the the guide and applying an additional $5 Promo Code APPINSDRMWB35722 when shopping at MacMall, AppleInsider readers are offered the lowest prices anywhere on some of Apple's notebook offerings.

Where MacMall isn't the lowest price, the best deals come from Amazon and MacConnection, including a mid-2011 11-inch MacBook Air for $699 ($300 off), a 1.80GHz 13" MacBook Air 128GB for $1,011.54 ($186.43 savings), a 2.5GHz 13" (4GB/500GB HDD) MacBook Pro for $962.54 ($236.45 savings), a 2.3GHz 15" (4GB/500GB HDD) MacBook Pro for $1649 ($150 off), and a 13.3-inch 2.5GHz MacBook Pro Retina (8GB,128GB) for $1,511.54 ($186.46 off).

Amazon also pays some of the highest prices (in Amazon Gift Cards) if you sell them your old Mac (compare with other trade in services).

Mac bundled with AppleCare

And if you plan to purchase a Mac with an AppleCare 3-year extended warranty, you can save several hundred dollars more on your total order using our Current Macs with AppleCare Price Guide (also posted below).

Some additional deals are on our Backpage.

There is obviously a major problem with the 21.5" imac. This would have been the perfect launch date.

Yup, I was hoping they would at least allow to preorder them both today... C'mon Apple!

The 13" 4GB/128GB MBA is $1025 @ Best Buy - $175 off. The other stock MBA's @ Best Buy are $100 off. So what that means is the 11" 4/128 is $999, and for $25 you get the 13"

Ooh, while you have your 5D transporter warmed up, take a gander over there for new products.

Not a problem at all because the notebooks have always outsold the desktops. That is why they have always had the discounts, even if lousy discounts by Apple. The new 21.5" iMac is a crippled Mac with non-upgradable memory and a slow laptop drive. Now who would be a fool to buy that model?

While whining about a discount not being "enough" is probably List-worthy, it only ever comes up once a year with Apple. Probably not worth a slot.

    Ah, humor.

    Okay.

Apple (Earth #5674) is releasing something called the Macbook Air Extreme and will be running two ads for it. The first ad features Zooey Deschanel using it shave her legs, and the second has Samuel Jackson decapitating someone with it while yelling "How d'ya like that Apple muthaf****!"

In this universe, Apple's marketing strategy is a little less touchy-feely.

Oh, and Microsoft is renaming itself. They're going to be called 'BananaSoft',  because after extensive research they've discovered that consumers seem to respond better to companies named after fruit.

Sounds like our universe's MacBook Air, if HP had their way…

Chiquita sales immediately plummeted, then surged, once people realized they can't actually buy bananas from Monkey Boy.

The desktop have GPU options that the laptops dont have .  That why I always need a desktop.  If you take a fusion drive I dont see how this is a "slow" drive...

I see the 27" has memory expansion but not the 21.5". Well the consumer that thinks he is going to need 16g can still buy it right from the stat.

FYI, for those with a Discover credit card, shopping at Apple Store

may the least expensive, at least for today.    In addition to the 5% discount

for online shopping until Dec. 31 using the card, there is an additional

5% stackable bonus for shopping thru their portal which routes you

to the Apple Store, *plus* another 2% just for today, apres signup.

This 12% plus the $101 off is, in the words of J. Robert Oppenheimer,

    "technically sweet".

lol... a $1,199 Macbook Pro for sale for $962 brand new on Amazon? The lowest price a MacBook Pro has ever been in the history of Apple?  A 20% discount?  Ya... "nothing".

Here's hoping you don't sell your house at a "nothing" 20% discount...
