New photos of Apple's Austin campus expansion show construction of second building
One month after AppleInsider offered a first look at Apple's upcoming Austin, Tex. campus expansion, fresh photos from the construction site show a second building being erected as work continues toward an expected completion date sometime in 2015.
Pictures of the one-million-square-foot complex sent in by AppleInsider reader Benjamin show how the build is progressing, the most notable change being the frame of a second structure situated adjacent to the first.
The new building seen in the photos is part of phase one of the project which, when finished, will create 200,000 square feet of office space. The initial stage will cost $56 million.
Construction of Apple's future campus began in December of 2012 as an extension of the company's existing operations center on Riata Vista Circle. When completed, the complex will be the Cupertino tech giant's new "Americas Operations Center."
Following phase one's completion in 2015, Apple is slated to move on to phase two, a huge undertaking expected to create 800,000 square feet of new space. In all, the Austin campus expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021, by which time Apple will have spent $304 million in construction costs.
According to reports, Apple's new operations center will create some 3,600 jobs, more than doubling the company's existing workforce in Austin. In exchange for providing an average salary of $35,000 for the bottom 10 percent of workers and a minimum pay of $11-per-hour for contractors, Apple will receive $30 million in tax breaks.

If Texas separated, it would be a nation made up almost exclusively of reactionaries, conservatives, and people content to live in the past. They'd have to resort to drugs, gambling, etc. for their economy to work at all and for anyone to want to actually come and visit. Also, every wingnut and criminal in the continental US would migrate there in a second after they secede and wouldn't *that* be fun.
It would become a (more) violent hell-hole in short order, if it survived at all.

The $21 million grant came from the Texas Enterprise Fund. It's at the state level. Apple bought the land the new buildings sit on, so they will pay property taxes.

Do you have any idea at all as to how dependent the rest of the country is on Texas and other gulf coast states? As for criminals, Texas is the last place they would move to, if you don't get shot therein the commission of a crime you eventually are executed anyways. Texas is a good model for the rest of the county they treat low life's and generally defective people the way they should be treated. Contrast this with New York that has a policy of mild punishment for crime and has dumped thousands of mental ill people onto the street apparently to sit back and launch when something bad happens. Seriously think about where you rather be as a criminal, some liberal shit hole of a state that allows you to make excuses for your crimes or Texas where the law is enforced strictly?

Haven't you heard most of the analysts and pundits are predicting the doom meme since like 6 years ago and they are still doing it whereas some companies even though they made a fraction of what Apple is making are expected to making billions in 2050.
