. . . feel free.
One of the putative selling points of the "mac experience" is the sense of community, the willingness of experienced mac users to help those who are switching, etc. Maybe you feel that this selling point should be obliterated, but I for one, do not.
Anyway, you should have classic right? You should be able to install into classic and run whatever you want there? Have you tried this?

I use my restore disk to put OS 9 back on my OS X volume (because it won't let me put it on a seperate partition). Then I copy those folders over to the right partition and remove them from my OS X partition...
I boot off that. Everything is fine. I set it up how I wanted it and everything. Then I boot into OS X and it's (OS 9) gone. The folders aren't there anymore. Weird huh?
I am going to try this again and if the same thing happens I'll go down to the Apple store and get tem to give me the correct OS 9. I also need a sleeve for the damn thing so why not?
Yellow Dog has 30 minutes to download and then I'll be putting that on a third partition. I bet that's easier to install than OS 9

Did you install the restore/installer program on the 1st software restore cd that shipped with the iBook, then install 9?
Also, I believe OS 9 is contained in a .images file on the 1st restore cd, and you could copy that to your hard drive to install 9. Just do the following:
Go>Go to folder and then type .mages in the drop down menu.

Nope, I can't install classic on OS X.2

Good luck, and post again if this doesn't help.
