iPad Mini need to be updated at least twice a year. Too many 7" tablets in competition even though they are far behind in term of performance. It is all about generating continuing excitement and fulfilling people's mindset.
Something just getting notice: Apple was denied a trademark for the iPad Mini.
Judging by the reasons given by the USPTO they may be toughening up on the standards for trademarks too. Up till now the Patent Office had been letting things slide a little, accepting links to Apple's applicable product web page in meeting the trademark submission requirements. Not in this case. Even if Apple does turn around and send an actual iPad Mini with the updated trademark application as would generally be required they're going to have to also overcome the USPTO's belief that 'Mini" is merely descriptive and thus cannot be trademarked. Gonna be tough.

@GG Does that mean if USPTO grant Apple the TM "Mini" they can sue Cooper Mini?
No idea. I don't even pretend I'm an attorney. For what it's worth I don't see where Apple ever got a trademark for Mac Mini either so perhaps it's just the USPTO being consistent.

Right, like "iPod mini" couldn't be trademarked. Come off it.

Apple says "Mac Mini" is trademarked, but I think they also say "Multi-touch" is trademarked too even tho it was denied.
EDIT: Interestingly Apple hasn't even trademarked "Mac" as far as I can see. The only pending application is from M.A.C. Corp.
