Back in January we bought 6 Windows 8 Pro licenses for the office when Microsoft was doing the introductory offer at 30 something bucks. So far Windows 8 has been refreshing to use, it's quite stable and I'm quite used to the Metro homescreen even though we're not on touchscreen desktops.
Agreed, it takes a couple of days to get used to. On the other hand, when using windows I spend 99.9% of my time on the desktop, so the metro thing is kind of pointless.
Apparently Microsoft confirmed on their call that cheap Windows 8 tablets are coming soon. So does Apple benefit if Microsoft and Google are in a race to the bottom with tablets?
Since MSFT is not going to give away their OS (unlike Google), cheap means something different.
Microsoft is paid a royalty on every Android device sold. Assuming (and it is a big assumption) that Microsoft charges a different rate depending on the device, does this mean that the only Google and Microsoft know the real breakdown of the Android market?
It's rumored that HTC pays some per-device royalty to Apple as part of the 10-year settlement of their IP disagreements. Other than that I'm not aware of one.

I recall seeing something to the effect that MSFT, AAPL, and Qualcomm make money off every android device sold (and not Google), but I could be wrong. On short notice I could find this:

Nothing there claiming that Android licensees are paying royalties to Apple. I think your link is just the opinion of an investor on how things might play out someday.

Yes, the anti-Apple cabal is ascendant! Hide your wives, children, and iDevices.

Yep, it's not as though Apple is the only company held to a double standard or anything¡

Here is an amusing piece on MSFT and GOOG and AAPL:

Google's revenue was up 31% year over year, and profits up 11%. Despite all those woes you listed, Google is still growing quite quickly.
Not perfect, but pretty damn good. Just because you don't understand finance doesn't mean those smarter than you are 'criminals'...
I believe he is referring to the double standard and not to the financial aspect.
Furthermore it takes one to know one too.
