That obviously means they are introducing a low cost iPhone so that the "whole world" and "developing" countries can use it!

That obviously means a new iTV is finally being announced. "A whole new world" before your very eyes!

That obviously means iOS and OSX are finally merging into one... Wait for it... "Whole new world" of operating systems!

Good guesses. There's always some kind of double meaning. I hope they release preview downloads of the new OSs.

Right, a human being has a thought or an idea and acts on it. Again that's not the idea doing something, its the person who has the idea pop in to their head.

Well, "A Whole New World" has to be one of, if not the most overused platitudes there ever was.  It's almost as cheesy as "This Changes Everything."
So yeah, it could mean almost anything.

The only thing it says to me for sure is that Apple hasn't got much new in the advertising and promotion department if this is all they can come up with.  The coloured squares on the invite and the banners are attractive, but since we already know they have nothing to do with the new look of the OS, they fill me with sadness also.

It all feels a bit tired and regurgitated to me.  Almost, (dare I say it) … Microsoftian.

Um, how do we know this? Have you seen iOS 7 already?

    Two possible ideas:

    1. A whole new world could be referring to apps being available for download and use on AppleTV.
    2. The new world could be the www world - signifying a shift to web apps (ie. iLife cloud).

Perhaps we will also see a new, easier way to create apps, similar to iBooks Author, but for Apps.

    That's that then.

A whole new world (of apps) simply means there's a new set of tools that look a little (Ive) different.

Here are my predictions for WWDC.

    Apple TV apps
Apps become more open allowing Siri to access them
    Airplay enhancements
    iRadio announcement
    iOS 7
    New MacBook Pro, Air
    New Mac Pro, Mini

Obviously the 'whole new world' is referring to the iOS 7 visual style, what Ive will call "a new fantastic point of view." Getting away from glossy buttons and faux-3D will make things "crystal clear," and using your iPhone will be like going on a magic carpet ride...

Maybe it's just the people I know but if someone says liquor it's understood they specifically mean hard alcohol: vodka, whiskey, rum, etc. Just look at definition number 1 you quoted.

Have you not heard the term hard liquor? The terminology one uses with friends, frankly or even coworkers is irrelevant to what is common in a society. Since you're goal was to communicate to this employee about your needs then the term hard liquor should have been used. I would have also covered my bases even more by supplying examples along with my query. "Excuse me, do you carry hard liquors, like vodka, whiskey, rum, etc., and if so where do you keep them?"

I agree with almost all. Don't forget OSX 10.9. I don't think the MBP and air both get updated. If the air does, the mini will too. If the MBP does, the mini won't (based on history). I also wouldn't count out airports getting updated. But of Apple TV gets updated with an App Store- that's enough to blow my socks off- ill be very happy.

What do you mean by "AirPlay enchantments?"

Lucky for you, you won't have to wait long to find out what it means.
Oh wait, never mind: you've already decided it's tired and regurgitated. :)
I realise I wasn't being as cheery as you'd like, but you got my meaning entirely wrong.

    If I had I couldn't/wouldn't admit it. :-)

Seriously though, it should be obvious why coloured squares of colours so bright and over saturated that they literally glow, are not going to have a place in the OS. The brightest, rawest colours we have now (which are an eye sore to many already), are unlikely to be trumped by even brighter, more neon colours. An OS littered with these colours would make a windows phone look dull, or subtly coloured.

    Apple TV apps ...

People always say this, but Apple TV already has apps.

If by "has apps" you mean "can run any app that runs on my phone/tablet" ... Why?

What's the point of being able to run a Notes app on your TV? What's the point of being able to run any app designed for mobile on a stationary device? Whats the point of being able to run a portrait app on a landscape device?

Why didn't we catch this before?! Notice the Forever 21 store in the background with the roman numerals; Apple used roman numerals for the WWDC logo because their announcing a partnership with Forever 21! Duh!!

The Apple store photo is a great photo - the man in the foreground, the pigeon, the steamy smoke from the street vent and the cigarette that probably isn't lit.

I'd like to know what people think they'll accomplish selecting each letter individually with the Apple Remote as they type in a note to themselves in Notes on the Apple TV.

The Apple TV is no place for native "apps".

You guys are unbelievable- but I'll bite.  So you actually think people want an app store... for Notes?  WTH?

Let me clarify since you two can't see the forest.  First- I don't know if either of you even have an Apple TV- if you don't, then you haven't been able to use it enough to form an opinion about the scenario I'm about to ask, so no need to answer.

If you DO own the Apple TV- do you have a Netflix account?  If you do- do you use the "native app" on the Apple TV or do you load netflix on your iPhone and then mirror it to the Apple TV.  If you use the native app- then my point is proven.

Not to mention, native apps allow you to have a universal search function.  Otherwise, you're going to app to app on your iphone/ipad to mirror.

Native Apps open up the door to a slew of other options as well.  So please... pipe down.... and think before you speak.

So… not apps in the slightest, then. But video content, tailored for the Apple TV. My stars. It's like we're on the same side after all!

Apps are idiotic. But I'm all for putting content on the Apple TV that actually belongs there, namely video. If they put out an API for creating Channels, well… we're talking revolution.

Says the guy who says he wants apps… but truly (and for the best) doesn't actually want apps. image

Apple can make whatever criteria they want for the Apple TV App store.  If someone wants to develop a notes app on it, and Apple approves, and someone downloads it- fine by me.  I, like you, would think that is completely idiotic, but it would give options.  Maybe someone develops an app that does your photo stream as a screensaver while also displaying your twitter feed, current sports scores, and/or current weather conditions.  Again- I might not want that, but the option would be great- good for both the consumer and developers.

Personally, I only want video and audio options (Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Instant, ESPN, HBO Go, Showtime, Netflix).  But I also know the only way to get a unified search is to have those apps natively on Apple TV.  There are so many other audio and video apps that arent mentioned- and if Apple opened up the doors- it would allow for all users to download whatever A/V apps they want- and if those apps develop for it (and apple allows it to be done)- be able to use a unified search function.  Even though that sounds small- that would be huge.  Imagine looking for "Sons of Anarchy season 5" and no streaming programs have it, but you could purchase from itunes for $X.  Good all the way around.

All of this is only possible with an App Store.  Up for debate on how regulated or the type of apps Apple would allow.

LOL. You'll get new Airs, new Pros, iOS 7 and OS X.
One more thing could be a new Mac Pro.
