I can't wait to see Uncle Fester sweating over Microsoft's watch running real Windows 8 with live tiles in Fisher Price colors and including a virtual keyboard that you can project on your crouch area to play games with yourself anywhere.
Deneve is an interesting guy, and he does have an understanding of the tech industry, and more importantly, Apple. I don't know if this is true, but if it is, he could be placed where his input would be useful. YSL has been pretty successful as a brand, and the other companies where he worked are also good experiences. He certainly would be better than Browett was. You don't hire a discounter to run a high end operation. There wouldn't be that problem with Deneve.
This does feel like doing a 180. Hopefully, not just for the sake of it.
I wonder what exactly he will be doing and interesting that he's reporting directly to Cook but not an SVP. I'm assuming then its more of a consulting role than the head of wearables or something like that. Besides wouldn't Ive ultimately be responsible for the design of "iWatch" or an other wearable tech Apple produces?

We now know that Ive is in charge of how a product looks, both HW and SW. But as to what a product does and how it does it - functionality if you will, I don't imagine Ive is in charge of that, at least not exclusively. I rather imagine that a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team would be dedicated to its development and prototyping. That's how the iPod came to be.

Yes, I should have clarified. I didn't mean Ive would be 100% responsible for form & function. But I would imagine he has final say (or a big say at least) in the look and feel of any wearable product Apple is working on. But maybe this YSL exec will be more involved on the strategic side, maybe more brand and marketing than design.
There is a difference between clothes 'fashion' and computing trends - what are Apple doing? Is this another retail error as in the hire of John Browett? This sounds bad for Apple.
There is only one place for Apple's "iPhone" to succeed, and that is as a luxury product. Smartphones are fashion. Period. No one needs one. People have to WANT one. Desire and LUST after one. If you do not have that kind of passion for such a thing, then there is always some cheap Chinese, no margin thing you can put in the pocket of your knock-off Members Only jacket you still have.

That's kind of what they have done before. Some time before the launch of the iPad, they hired someone with experience in marketing tablets.
Wearable computing devices? such as the recently openly trademarked iWatch and who knows what other "special projects". What else can he do if hes not in retail, not in industrial design, engineering, graphic design, must be something new or at least different hat requires this level of fashion background.

Plus if Apple is working on a watch or some other wearable tech I'm sure they're already well in to the development phase, so this could signal they're getting close to releasing something.

Yeah, you know, Apple has a history of doing things "just for the sake of it."
What a rubbish sentiment.

Mind telling us why? And what the differences between fashion sentiments and computing trends are?

LOL.
Still lobbing stink bombs from your basement? No luck finding gainful employment to utilize that non-rubbish intellect of yours?
Just what do you think you accomplish with your periodic epithets, beyond drawing sympathy?

Rubbish stereotype. And it actually is.

Do you mean that they are not computer users? Or that they are Apple users as opposed to PC users?
This is a new breed of fashion. Terre Inconnue.
Paul worked for Apple before and knows the fashion industry. Ideal Choice.
Time will tell.
DED wrote an article about Apple? I thought he was just the anti-Android writer here. Congrats on moving up in the world, DED!
