This info graphic seems to support what I see in my group of friends.

For Netflix (which I believe is the biggest streaming provider) just 1% watch on AppleTv, vs 13% each on PS3/XBOX and 42% via computer. Hulu is predominantly computer, not sure why but I believe hulu is not on a lot of devices and quite a bit of content is web only.

This survey is hugely suspect given that Netflix has stated that the PS3 was their top platform in 2012.

Funny the part that google was hoping for apple to bring a TV, so they copy it and all tv's would run "googles tech." They would claim.

Considering it I fell like next year that it would be a high percentage buy a 60 inch $1000 TV plus a $100 Apple TV, compared to a 27 inch monitor with same function(hinting at apple) at $1000.

If you mean the Nielsen survey..

    From your link..

"PS3 is our largest TV-connected platform in terms of Netflix viewing, and this year, at times, even surpassed the PC in hours of Netflix enjoyment to become our No. 1 platform overall,"

It's hard to decipher that statement. On one hand it says that PC mostly has more hours viewed, yet PS3 is #1 overall.

The article is also a year later than the Nielsen survey.

If you meant the survey in the OP, then I agree. The title of the OP seems to indicate that 54% of all streaming devices in use last year were AppleTv's, where as all it actually says is that more appleTv's were sold than roku, tivo and a few other streaming only devices.

How many units used for porn? After all, this is the "third leg" of Apple's business.

If you had a remote clue -- instead of being silly -- you'd know the answer is zero.

If you are talking about AirPlay, then that offers nothing more for your prurient interests than an HDMI cable has offered for a long time.

I have three ATV's (one 3rd gen, two first gen) and two XBox 360's (one first day box and a newer 250GB version....and BTW, never a red ring of death!!) Anyhow, when I can stream from either box I prefer to stream from the ATV - mainly because of the interface and when compared to the XBoxes the ATV is much quieter.

Actually, the XBox and PS3 aren't used for that very much, and the Wii is a very bad experience, from our own attempts. No hi Rez for a start, and it isn't well set-up for that.

    I beg to differ.

yes, as many others note, ATV is simpler to use for, say, Netflix than other boxes. in my case, simpler than my TiVo and PS3. i don't do Hulu, so i don't know about that.

but it could be even better.

first, the candy bar IR remote control wheel buttons are just too small and so i often mis-click on them.

and second, the Remote app really sucks - instead of simply seeing the ATV screen with app buttons to tap, it still makes you use it like a track pad to move the cursor LRUD. clumsy! why?

AirPlay of course is the big bonus and i use it a lot.

I've had an ATV since v1 and now have two v2. Love the concept and gets used quite a bit. Having invested in the whole Apple Eco system I find them a joy to use and seems to bring everything together. The possibilities for future iterations is excellent and looking foward to what Apple has installed for its gem of a product.

I'm not from USA and I wouldn't want to be without Apple TV anymore. There are gazillion reasons what I want this device. Google TV? OMG...

Curious what share Sookbox will grab. Seems to be a more robust product. Heard launching soon.

To be honest, AirPlay is *why* I bought an AppleTV.

    But I rarely use AirPlay.

Instead, I use it as my primary vehicle of content consumption, and my other streaming devices collect dust.

Also, SkyNews is awesome, and shows a great model of how to do other TV channels (with on-demand and the all-important "LIVE"). I wish other content creators would follow suit.

They loved seeing photos of themselves. I wouldn't even sort or edit the photos...just put everything up. It's great and I recommend it to everyone! :)

P.S. Kudos to Apple...pretty good for a "hobby!" Stevo, I love you! :)

Agree! All the internet radio stations are a hidden gem. There's nothing better than calming down after a long day with a beer, glass of vino or a drink, and listening to some smooth jazz or ambient lounge. I use it all the time. I'm hoping that current stations will still be available once they release iTunes Radio, otherwise i'll have to airplay them from my computer.

Also along the lines of pictures, one thing that I do that's ALWAYS and party hit is using photo stream to update my screen saver with photos from the party in real-time. I create a shared photo stream for that particular party, set the ATV screen saver to that specific photo stream, snap photos and add them to the stream right away, all night. With the music going and drinks flowing, the drunker people get the better and funnier the photos get. Everybody gets a good laugh looking at the TV every now and then. The next day I invite everyone with iPhones to the photo stream so they can keep them. You should give it a try, guaranteed hit!!
