Not to mention crappy performance. The touchscreen on these tablets is truly atrocious.
Because the Fire is still much more expensive than most of the cheap tablets. How does $30 strike you?
I don't know that there are are tablets retailing in China for $30 US or less, suppose there could be somewhere, but it's not all that hard to find sub-$50 wholesale tablets in quantity if you aren't picky about your display. http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/cheapest-tablet-pc-made-in-china.html
Apple made a serious mistake not putting the gps chip inside iPad wifi models. After three years numerous tablet apps wants the location of the device.
You should educate your self about the A-GPS used on mobile devices and why it depend on the cellular network to work:
So what are you talking about a GPS on a Wifi only tablet? Can you point me out one case of an wifi only tablet with GPS? In case you didn't understand yet ill make clear for you.
You can't put a full standalone GPS in a cell phone or a tablet it is too slow (40-50 seconds warmup), power hungry and needs bulky antenna, and you need the 3G option already available on a tablet for using the assisted GPS. And even if it was possible, a standalone GPS is far from a free technology, should cost as much as the current 3G+GPS option Apple already offers (about 100$).
If you really want a GPS on a Tablet, just pay for the 3G option.
In case you didn't understand yet ill make clear for you. You can't put a full autonomous GPS in a cell phone or a tablet,
Why?
They put them in PND's like those from TomTom and Garmin. As for tablets specifically even the old 2012 non-cellular Nexus7 has a gps chip and works just fine for navigation even with 3rd party apps like Co-Pilot. Not including a gps chipset in a non-cellular iPad is probably a marketing choice rather than a technical limitation.

Eight years ago I have been able to run a gps enabled navigation program on my mac with a gps device plugged in.
It's inevitable that Apple will decline. Without Steve it's just another US corporation, burdened by hangers-on in middle management who block innovations to help their careers.

Obviously this is nonsense, otherwise they would have already rectified their "mistake". You're just wrong.

The complete and total opposite of what you said is true. My effing flip phone has GPS and it doesn't even have 3G service. Never mind that you can put GPS in an EFFING SD CARD. It has nothing to do with a cell network.

They'd be worried if people buying Kia were those who would've bought BMW if Kia didn't exist.
In the end, yes, people who bought cheap tablets, some of them would've bought an iPad. iPad, especially with mini, is not as 'premium' as people here are thinking. At $329, a lot of people in China can buy 1 if they really want it, but if there's Android tablet selling for $99, well, even if it's crap, it can still be used to read books, play video, use facebook/email/web, etc, and people will just say 'ok it's bad but it's cheap enough so I don't have to save up to buy a $329 iPad mini.
Exactly. Can't agree more. That's why Apple is coming out with iphone5c. Why bother with plastic and compete with Samy in the plastic market. I think Apple is turning direction under TC.
Again, I think there has to be a clear differentiation here.
It's OK to count an "overall share" of the "tablet" market, like we might for an "overall mobile phone market" (including ALL mobile phones, and not specifying the "smartphone segment" that Apple actually competes in).
It's quite another to imply that Apple's iPads are competing head to head with the $49 "disposable craplets" for market share. That's like saying the iPhone is also competing with every $29 disposable phone for market share. Although we might note Apple's share of the total mobile phone market including feature phones and disposable phones, that isn't the segment that Apple really competes in. Thus the constant differentiation of their share of the "smartphone segment".
In the Pad or Tablet market, although recent inclusions of the bottom dollar netbooks of the tablet world are now being counted, I don't think it accurately reflects Apple's position in the market they created. That is, fully functional, high-performance, high-quality "premium" post-PC devices.
The way those are being suddenly included and then pointed to as Apple "losing massive market share", as if this is occurring overnight, is just nonsense.
How is Apple doing in the market they compete in? Versus Google/Asus, MS, Samsung and the like? Those are the only "competitors" that really count.

Although the basic premise of your point is valid, I don't think the MASSES of 'cheap tablets' that are skewing the numbers count as those that might be "cannibalizing" iPad sales. Not remotely.
The few that you allude to are just that. Few. People used to say the same thing about iPhone.
There are so few of "those who would've bought BMW if Kia didn't exist" that they don't really affect any of the numbers. The same is true of iPad "would-be" buyers. Most who buy a $99 tablet over an iPad Mini either simply can't afford it (and wouldn't be an iPad buyer anyway) or don't know any better, don't know it's crap and will be dead within a year, and think they're getting a better value.
The fact is, if EVERYONE woke up at once and understood the real value proposition of the iPad and started buying it en masse, that would kind of suck, actually. Apple would not be able to keep up with that kind of demand… I like that their products are great, and popular, but I don't want to have to wait weeks every time I want to buy one.
Apple better step up their technology inside the next generation iPad Mini with Retina! No more 3 year old technology inside this time around - hopefully it will have an A7, 2GB, IGZO display!

Apple does make mistakes. Jobs said 7" tablet is not suitable to users. Don't you remember what Jobs said?
True, but it does speed up the TTFF (Time to first fix)
I do. And they don't make those. Probably because they don't know how to make a $499 device which isn't a total piece of junk.

This isn't one of them. It would be nice to have a GPS chip across all iPads, but it's neither necessary nor a mistake not to.

It's not. Two further points: 1. That's why they didn't make one. 2. Jobs is dead now.

Are you calling iphone5c a cheap model? no way. If 5c is a success, watch Apple coming out with a "cheap model" ipad-c.
