I liked the style of bradbower's mock-up a lot more than this one.
Could a G3 work without getting laughed off the face of the earth?
Maybe, if...
It was an SIMD variant of Sahara (that IBM talked about, but suddenly stopped talking about, yet that isn't due untill Q4 or early '03) using a fast DDR variant.
It was extremely low heat and high-efficiency, so that (literally) dozens of them can be crammed together in a closet.
It's a 1U rack mount.
If it's a garden variety G3, even a low power .13u SOI/low-k variant (ie no SIMD) running at Ghz speeds with regular SD-RAM, if that's the case, what's the point?
The photos could be faked. But geez guys. EVERY photo of an Apple computer or device ever shown on their site or passed among the rumor sites (when the photo was proved to be accurate) are Photoshop enhanced. I remember when photos of the SE iMac were deemed phony on this site because people detected photoshop enhancement. As we all know those photos were accurate. The truth will be told next week.

You DID read the thread didn't you? It's so funny how all these newbies race to this thread and post their opinion on these "leaked" photos. I saw that picture and said "Pismo" and I've never seen one in real life. Some people here got a lot of maturing to do.
I wanted to see how long that one would last. It's fake.
It's a bunch of pics of my Pismo patched together in Photoshop.
However, at least some of the reasons people claimed it was fake were wrong.. ie. the Apple logo is 'genuine'.. straight from the top of my Pismo. The shape is correct.. it's not 'rounded' due to bad Photoshopping, as slick501b claimed.
Also, the RJ-11 isn't out of place. The Google rackmount box has an RJ-11 for diagnostics, which is why i left it on there. I did edit out the sound-in/out and S-video ports, though.
Cheers,

I think you did yourself a disservice to post this faked picture. As a moderator you have authority and credibility, and to misuse like this harms it.

Lighten up. It was a "joke", for "fun" (look those two up on dictionary.com) *CONFIRMED* stories are a long tradition here, and anyone who has been around for a bit will tell you. It makes the forum more interesting.

ps. I'm actually surprised that so many people took it seriously.. My PS skills aren't too finely developed...
I blame the fact that I first saw it on a PC monitor! Now that I'm sitting at my Mac and it's much nicer LCD, the repetition in the black "faceplate" is obvious, and it's obvious that the texture's wrong for metal.
Heh Amorph.. I actually thought your first post was tongue in cheek, ie. you were implying that if anders asked too many questions, it would come out as being faked

The fact that you are a moderator who I trust made me fall for your prank. Of course, since I have no interest whatsoever in a rack mount server, I thought to myself: "Wow, cool. robo/AI is finally getting the goods again!" I didn't even bother to examine the picture for authenticity.
I like Apple's proactive disclosure of infromation and regular hardware/software updates theses days. It means that I can read MacMinute once a day and be just as up-to-date as if I spent hours lounging around on the AI boards.

On the PC it just looked black.
Good one, though.

It's retroactively tongue in cheek.
