Gov't ops.  NSA must be getting much more private info with iOS7.  I'll wait and see.

Ironically, Android needs this kind of help. But the cops should be standing at the offices of the carriers and device makers because they are the ones holding up the upgrades.
Android already has it available to all users, bypassing the carriers and manufacturers. No OS update required. Today it got another enhancement allowing an owner to remotely set a password even if one wasn't already set, or change an existing one. As TS points out Google just isn't anywhere near as effective as Apple in getting free press. Kudos to Apple for that. Google should pay attention and start working a little harder on letting users know when new features are introduced. Doesn't do much good when few know about it.

Hah, homebrew newspaper uses classic Apple logo.

This is probably also a "scare the criminals" tactic. I'm sure when any new hot item comes along that becomes a major theft victim, they get really sick of it really quickly. "Not ANOTHER stolen iPhone/smashed-up Apple Store/hijacked truck of iPhones!!!!"
