Mail "Send" crashes repeatedly. Reboots might solve the issue for a brief time but ultimately that fails. Even did a major reinstall of Mavericks to no avail. Hoping for a quick-really quick-update!!! And please, can't we communicate without racial profiling???
Horrible grammar affects people of all nationalities, all cultures, all ages, and even those who speak a language natively. What I find interesting is that with circa 2000 countries in the world you choose this 1% as being the culprits.
Not to mention typing on small iPhone screens with what is somes laughably inaccurate autocorrect.
Clearly there are problems with Mail and you rightly point out that a significant number of people 15,000 have followed a thread on this on Apple discussions. But there is a much bigger issue with Mavericks that is causing a huge amount of accrimony in Apple discussions and yet very few people are reporting on it. There is a thread of some 30 pages, read by almost 28000 viewers on the breaking of local syncing in iTunes- you can no longer sync your address book or calendar between iOS and Macs except through the NSA- sorry I mean iCloud. Many of us, especially but not only those not in the US, are really really unhappy about this silent and crippling change to iTunes under 10.9 (the issue is 10.9 not iTunes). Interestingly, local sync still works in windows! The issue is not only what Apple have done, but how they have done it, without any warning of the removal of a core functionality. Many people on the thread are downgrading to 10.8 and the only other solution seems to be to install OSX server. Sorry to have hijacked this thread slightly.....
While I don't like that Apple has limited choice for syncing contacts and calendars to my iPhone, I'm more bothered by the fact that I can no longer sync that same info to my iPods, since no iPod except the touch can sync via the network. Building my own server isn't going to solve that. I know there are work arounds that involve a series of manual steps, but it's silly that Apple couldn't create a function within iTunes to perform the sync (even with Sync Services stripped out of OSX now.
All I know is, I was happy with the way Mail worked in 10.8 and now I'm not. Hopefully this update will fix things. I haven't had any issues with Mail on iOS7 on my iPad 2.

I've lost messages when moving them to a different mailbox folder. Gone Pffff bummer. I've been doing this for years when people send me stuff to a wrong address. This has never happened before Mavericks.

You have a good point, although India and Pakistan make up 20% of the world's population, so his comment isn't that rediculous.
- marking a message as junk in a smart mailbox only marks it as junk but doesn't move it to the junk mailbox as it used to do correctly in previous releases; marking a message as junk in the inbox still moves it to the junk mailbox. This makes using a smart mailbox for unread or flagged or VIP messages useless
- if mail is open on multiple machines junk message marking and classification gets seriously wonky and/or out of sync
There are other issues, like mail blocking if one account experiences minor connectivity issues, instead of silently retrying and running each account in a separate thread
Despite all of the shortcomings, Mail.app in classic view is still the most productive mail client for me.
I hope it is coming, but the solution is server side rules. That way we could have the same results no matter if Mail.app is open on my mac or not.

...the last thing I would like to see is Apple implementing some (castrated) server side rules for iCloud accounts, and ditching rules in Mail.app; or for that matter each and every mail server having different server side rules.
Until such a point where server side rules are powerful and standardized and can be edited from the client over an extended IMAP(-like) standard protocol, as much as I conceptually like the idea of server side rules (just like server side mail storage and client side caching/backup), I'd be against it, because the inconsistency that will come with it.
Right now, provided Apple finally fixes some bugs and irons out some irregularities, I just leave Mail open on my desktop, and the effect is essentially the same as server side rules, and it applies to all my various e-mail accounts, and thanks to IMAP the results are shared across platforms. The issue is, that in previous incarnations of Mail.app (pre-Lion), it was no problem to have Mail app open on multiple desktops/laptops: the rules were applied consistently on a first comes, first executes basis. Now it seems there are hidden race conditions where rules get partially executed, e.g. a message is moved to the junk mail folder, but not marked as junk, or marked as junk, but the colorizing rule I set up is isn't executed, etc. But these are simply bugs.
Apple also has for a long time now some omissions, e.g. some rules allow for execution if the *sender* is part of a particular group in Contacts. But there's no equivalent for if the *recipient* is part of a particular groupd in Contacts. These sort of things seem like odd omissions, and despite having been reported as bugs, feature requests, etc. there's just no change, as if it were that difficult to make such things symmetrical. It's that sort of Apple ignoring reasonable and logical user requests for many years that sometimes drives me up the wall with an otherwise damn well designed system.

Buy the Server upgrade to OS X, and enable your own CardDAV server, move your contacts over, and be done with it. It's a $20 purchase. Most basic iCloud services (unfortunately NOT (yet?) keychain sync) you can host on your own server, in particular calendar, contacts, etc.
Only push notifications will go through Apple's push server, but that can be turned off. Not sure what information is in the push notification, i.e if it's just a "check the server for updates" or a "this is the update from the server <info included>" message.
But in any case, the careful/paranoid/security-sensitive can turn off push notification. Then it's just a matter of keeping your server secure, both in software and physically.
