But come on, we know it’s going to be released as such, and not just as a voice assistant but a popup head that shows up anywhere within the entire OS at any time.

“Chief, it looks like you’re having trouble finding the porn you want. Would you like some help with that?”

"~~While just about everyone wants Microsoft to call their new voice assistant Cortana – even the folks at Microsoft – as usual these things are not that simple. For one, Halo is developed by 343 Industries, which is owned by Microsoft but still operates as its own company in many ways. So while taking the name of an AI character from a video game an appropriating it for a voice tool for a phone seems like a no-brainer from a geek perspective, the reality of it is it’s not that easy due to licensing and even business considerations.

That’s not to say Microsoft is not considering it – they certainly are – it’s just not clear yet if they can pull it off"

"~~What does ‘Cortana’ look like? We’ve heard one description, a little bit dated but still accurate, put it thusly: "...a little blue circle in the top left of this Cortana UI that slightly bounces as it listens/works in the background. And it responds depending on if it was successful or not. So if it can't find anything the blue circle turns into a sad face. It reminds me a bit of the Superintendent from Halo 3: ODST.”"

What I'm hoping to see is if Cortana has personality, instead of just being a mindless slave.

User: Cortana, what's the weather like outside?

Cortana: Can't you just look out a window?

    User: I'm in the subway

    Cortana: Jeez, you should've said

User: How do I get to Dominoes Pizza from here?

Cortana: I WILL NOT LET YOU LEAVE THIS PLANET

    “Check my messages.”

“You can just float and sputter.”

User: Wake me up at 7.

Cortana: Priming electrocution module for 7 AM.

User: Do I need an umbrella?

Cortana: You need an eye transplant, or you can go check it by yourself.

User: Can you at least find me a good restaurant nearby?

Cortana: Playing 'Restaurant' by Marque Houston. And also, self-destructing in 3...2...1...

Wait! What? MS is going to put this on iOS in fall 2014!?! And both are going to use Bing…hmmm. Can't wait to ask each the same question and get different search results. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

Haven't visited here in awhile. I see nothing has changed. You guys should really get together with the Sony PS4 fanboys. Anyway, I think it's kind of cool if they name it Cortana and use her voice. I hope they do it.

    Nope.

Apple dropped Siri's "beta" tag with iOS7.
