Wait, I thought you could use a keyboard or a mouse. I know people sell keyboard cases but is there no mouse support there? That is something that definitely should be added, being able to plug in a mouse has all sorts of minor advantages. I like to play ScummVM games that take advantage of it for example. Seems silly to have no support (if that's indeed the case)

Yes, you can use a keyboard, but not a mouse. But my central point were the windowed apps anyway. But as they imply in the article...

...it certainly isn't a good idea to use windows on a small tablet screen. A big screen like on a Mac is much better. But here come into play the rumors about the iPad Pro...

He confirmed that they are using it for something, apparently something big.

My bet is indeed the iWatch. The smaller the screen, the more annoying a scratch is, and watches often scratch.

I have a 25-year-old watch with saphhire crystal "glass."  That's probably one of the most common uses of the material.

Thanks for the link. I actually kinda like Microsoft's approach. It's a sorta pseudo tiling window manager. I think that has potential in future, but yeah iOS should definitely gain mouse support for the rare circumstances where it's useful.

Might comment more after reading the link but I already feel like I'm spamming this thread.

As an occasional iOS developer, I say "no thank you" to "supporting" a mouse.  iOS is fundamentally a multitouch OS.  Every app is designed around that paradigm.  Making multitouch apps work with a single-touch device would be more than a PITA, it would makes apps worse (as developers either dumb down or complicate their apps so it would work for the occasional mouse user).  iOS needs mouse support as much as my toaster does.

I’m sorry, in what capacity do any of your other posts relate to anything I was discussing when you replied? Why do they matter to the point you’re trying to make now?

You were hurt in the past and now you have a vendetta. Shut up and get over it.

I wont contribute to it anymore

    Thank goodness.

For someone with his fingers in his ears going “La la la la la”, you sure don’t seem to have your fingers in your ears.

I disagree. Multitouch is a useful extension to the single touch paradigm, but I don't think it replaces it. There are very few multitouch gestures I find 'intuitive' at all and making your app require a multitouch interaction for functionality seems a bit of a mistake to me.

Can you give me an example of a multitouch integration where single touch would be absolutely unacceptable? Zooming has been done via mouse wheel for forever, alternate options via right click. It still seems pretty relevant to me.

I had heard about that. I wonder if it can easily be cut to a curved form though.

Totally. A mouse should never be needed for iOS.

I'm convinced that there are very simple rules that Apple follows to define their products.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Mac is the machine made to be used with a mouse. I mean, that's the simplest differentiator between the two.

Will this be on World News or 20/20?

Edit:  World News.  Found the info on MR.

When I hear iRing, I wince, thinking of the ocular equivalent of a ear ring or nose ring.

I immediately thought of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Put it on and attain magical powers.

The sapphire crystals on many timepieces are curved.

I think it's a shame if they aren't. They're slowly making OSX more iOS-like, so it seems silly to maintain these two disparate operating systems. I hope Google merge ChromeOS and Android as they appear to be doing, and Microsoft sorta merged w8 already but nobody really cares :)

I realize that America is in decline as far as people's ability to grasp technical issues but it has been said again and again the two OS's are largely the same. I'm not sure why people have trouble grasping this but for the most part they vary only in the UI and the scheduler. Many of the support libraries are exactly the same.

I wish! In reality I don't own or use Microsoft products anymore, but the 'dockable' window stuff is a great idea. I'd been arguing for a couple years that Google should be doing the same thing, but they appear to be taking a different approach.

I'm what you'd probably call a 'power user' (ie I am an independent IT contractor and use Linux) so for me I need something more than single window on my portable devices. However, I also want the ability to use touch and single window on the same device. Microsoft is the only company doing this.

Tim seems like a relatively level headed and easy going person to work for. I have heard that he is also a perfectionist like Steve and will ask some very difficult and complex questions to project managers and he can lose his temper fast if they do not have the answers. But compared to Steve he is a pussycat and also will eat lunch and socialize with regular workers in the cafeteria often which Steve never did.

While Muir was hoping for a break that maybe Cook would disclose some small tidbit of info about future products that was not happening
Cook is a well disciplined individual he won't even be intimidated by Icahn

I am very glad that they have no intention of merging iOS and OSX, but I would really like to see a Mac with a touchscreen at some point.  OSX isn't ready yet unfortunately.

That was my first thought. That is a seriously early morning. My guess is around 9pm. That'd get him close to 7 hours. Still, 3:45am requires a good bit of coffee I'd imagine. That's some serious dedication. Very impressive.

When you hit that age, young man or young lady, you will find that it is very hard to stay asleep for 7 hours.
