I will anxiously await a fix from either or both of you since the solution is apparently quite easy.
Hmm... The issue isn't on the server side. It's with the client. I didn't write Mail.app. I never speculated on how easy it would be. I wouldn't have a chance to repair it without the source.
Your argument has reinforced how lacking Apple's care is to make a good product. It appears that they have slip into a chronic case of shipping products which are not to the quality norm before Steve Jobs died. After this issue was first discovered, a fix should have been found and released within a month. That's when you care about making it right and providing the best user experience. Now, they go 4 months and the fix is a workaround. Strong leadership wouldn't allow this and it reflects their change in goals. User experience and usability are no longer the main goal.
No problems with Apple Mail here, even with a few gmail accounts. Strange, maybe my upgrade path is the right one: backup, format, clean install. Drag in data manually and reinstall software, as opposed to upgrade OSX & restore TM backups. To some a myth, others can verify that this makes OSX happy. Or seemingly, Apple Mail.
One step easier: Right-click on the Gmail account under MAILBOXES and select Get Account Info. Does the same thing in one click. I%u2019ve been doing this for weeks%u2026 :-(
I don't have this issue, but prior to 10.9 my computer used to check for new email immediately on wake, now it seems to wait about a minute before checking. I wonder if integrating Power Nap support in to Mail has somehow made things horrendously complicated and hard to debug. The whole concept of Power Nap set off all sorts of alarm bells in my software developer brain when I first heard about it (in terms of what is would mean for the complexity of Apple's code).
The Mail app in Mavericks is useless as it gets... switched to another mail client app. The mails not getting fetched is not the only problem. There are also email constantly getting saved in drafts folder, even if they were send. Mail is such an essential app, not sure why Apple can't make a decent mail app. They are just playing around trying to make UI look kind of beautiful, instead they should just make the app usable. I think Mail is one app they should look at the competition from Redmond. Outlook is by far much more sophisticated and usable Mail app.
Mail has been a problem for many generations. It is not a professional class email client.
It really breaks down if you have more than one or two accounts. It doesn't work well with Exchange, GMail, HotMail... What else is there for it to work well with?
It is just a port from the NeXT days : 20 year old technology shoe-horned into a modern OS. It seriously needs a re-write.
I've not run into this issue. The problem I'm having is two-fold: 1) Mail continually dumps certain messages in Junk, even though they aren't. It's the same messages, and they're not marked as junk. But they get shoved into that folder every time. 2) I have contents of entire mailboxes listed in the Archive folder. I don't understand why at all. It makes no sense.
Are there any known fixes for these issues? I've googled them, but nothing has ever come up. Sometimes my google-fu fails me, though, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I think you can prevent messages going to Junk by adding the sender's address to the Contacts app. That used to work anyway, I haven't tried it for a while.
I found another manual solution which was downloading Airmail from the App Store. First time ever I've considered another Mail program besides Mail.app

That tells me just how much your company cares about what it does, thanks!
Works flawlessly as long as you don’t use Gmail.
Rather than forcing the re-establishment on the user handle it in code, via a timer.
You're welcome.
I am so glad that I did not upgrade.
Ok.
Surprised Apple didn't just suggest all users switch to using iCloud only. Problem fixed!
The best resolution is for Google to resolve the issue on their end.

Luckily, other mail app 'just works'.
