The 5C is selling fine. Way better than the 4S it replaced.

People just like the 5S better.

Samsung WISHES they had this problem. People want the more expensive one!

Wasn't the consensus of this board that iPhone 5C's would be "flying of the shelves"?

Wasn't the consensus of the first weekend sales about 2.5 million units? How is anything over 100k in 3 days not flying off the shelf?

How's that Vine App. working for you on your Windows Mobile device? I'm sure it must be really exciting, it seems to be a big selling point in some of the Windows Mobile commercials currently in rotation. :D

All the ads can be seen on this page:

They probably should have avoided the sheep one.

I think Apple was thinking that the the colors would attract young people but the reception was weaker than expected. I don't think it had anything to do with the price. Young people were just not that impressed with colors because they could buy a case for their iPhone 4 for $20 bucks and toss it in a couple weeks if they changed their mind.

That's true, there are lots of case options and they'd add enough color to the premium phones and can be changed easily:

Apple could have sold cases for the iPhone 5 and 5S with the 5C case designs with the dots and you'd get the best of both - premium build phone and you can pick and choose multiple cases for different occasions. Right now, you have to choose to get the thumb scanner or the colors, you could easily have both. Side by side, the 5S is by far the nicer phone, getting a clip-on case that can easily be taken off and switched would be a better choice for people who don't mind the $100 price difference:

Apple might be smart to make the 5c their phone for the emerging markets, dropping the 4s.

The rest either don't want an Apple product, or in many other areas of the world the 5c is simply priced out of their reach.

I expect more people think of it this way: I'm currently paying $xx/month for my smart phone plan.  I have options like this:

    1. I can keep my current phone, pay zero dollars and keep paying $xx/month.

    2. I can buy a new phone for $99 out of pocket and keep paying $xx/month.

    3. I can buy a more expensive new phone for $199 out of pocket and keep paying $xx/month.

    etc.

Using that logic (and it's not invalid), the choice is between $99 and $199.  The total cost of the data plan over 2 years is irrelevant.

In any case, most people think the 5s is worth the $100 premium over the 5c, so it's selling better.  Apple would be much more concerned if this were reversed.

True. But what I meant was where was the push six months ago? Kind of late to start this now and not have it come off like what you describe.

Just adds to the taint that further dooms the legacy of a decent piece of hardware.
