I am. The $50 is only for an awesome update to an app that was never free unless you bought a mac with a superdrive. So if you don't have a superdrive the other apps are free.

So everyon cursed Apple only knowing half the story. I can't wait to get the bundle and a pack of DVDs at only $3 each now

btw- I love Safari. So no more IE and possibly PowerPoint? If Apple get Appleworks going.....

I think it's fine. I do have a SuperDrive so I will get the whole bundle. I'm pretty pleased.

Interesting. Certainly a good scenario from my point of view. Apple seems to be making an effort to place their software products onto store shelves, if only for appearance's sake. The only thing you have to pay for is the iDVD upgrade, something that probably isn't worthwhile to up/download. To me, this with .Mac and their other announced software points more to a retail box strategy (for mindshare and shelf space) than charging to Mac users.

I think its a pretty nice deal, but not worth it for me...I don't have a superdrive, so iDVD and all this integration in all the iApps is worthless to me....When they release new, kick-ass versions of the software, THEN I'll think about forking over the $50...

Well, iMovie3 will be free, iTunes is free and iPhoto2 will be free. So you have no need to wait for anything and you will never need to spend the $50.

    Happy now?

I'm pleased, BUT I would like to know if...

    1. Can you use external burners with iDVD 3 or will it at least let you prep a DVD without a burner installed.

    2. Is iLife bundled with new macs?

    3. Did they remove some of the old themes or just added new ones?

I was distracted during the keynote with work so forgive me if Steve addressed these questions already.

It most certainly does support external DVD burning. Go all the way to the iDVD page and take a look at the compatibility list -- many dozens of drives supported, and a few dozen drives not supported.

photoeditor, double check--I believe that list is for compatible DVD players.

    According to iDVD3's <a href="http://www.apple.com/idvd/features.html"; target="_blank">Feature Page</a>:

"To run iDVD 3 you need a SuperDrive equipped iMac, eMac, Power Mac G4, or PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X v 10.1.5 or later (v 10.2.2 or later recommended) and at least 256 MB of RAM."

On-topic: Bundle's priced very fairly. I'll be at the local Apple Store on the 25th.

This is great! (I don't have a superdrive) And I thought I had to buy the updates of iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie, I can just download them free.

Sounds like an OK deal, especially for those who still use dial-up (saves on mega downloads), though I still have one question, the price in USA will be $49 for the bundle of apps on CD rom .. heres hoping that Apple will have the sense to market the same bundle in Europe at the appropriate exchange rate (though knowing Apple, I very much doubt it!).

    Close enough <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Now to make it even better value .. bundle current version of Quicktime as well please

Yes Apple did the best thing it possibly could with iLife... didn't screw its users over by charging them for apps they've been downloading for free AND is making some much needed $$ off of iDVD.

They also did the right thing by charging a decent amount right off the bat for Keynote. I didn't hear anyone who was interested in it (in #thinksecret) grumbling about $99.

Apple's obviously listening to its customers on iApps. As I said elsewhere, the suite will be sweet in a new Digital Lifestyle Device, sure to come by Spring. (Well, life springs eternal anways).
