I am glad - I find the display quality to be inferior with iPad Air. I bought it and I couldn't stand the dark tinge on the left side so I took it back and complained. I still use iPad 3 (the one with old connector). I noticed the pattern on all iPads and it made me think that it's a shoddy quality workship of non-Samsung.

Samsung is a scum but there's no denying that it does produce HIGH QUALITY products and seems to have excellent team that produce exceptional results.
Tim, is that you? Glad to see you finally joined AI. Welcome.

Is the Air's display coming from Samsung? I wasn't aware that the less color gamut was due to the displays not coming from Samsung.

According to AllThingsD yes in all probability, with LG supplying some number of them too.

Apple doesn't 'transform' anything in the chips that Samsung delivers to them.  You're a brave soul if you are claiming iPhones are laggy on these forums.  You would also be wrong.

Apple has a powerful rival in Samsung, a company with vast manufacturing capabilities.

Samsung is better at manufacturing than the rest.

Apple needs Samsung.  Fortunately, Samsung also needs Apple's money.

It's called, give SameDung the business for existing Apple products (the ones they already know about) to free up other suppliers to provide the components for new (still unknown to SameDung) products.  That would be my guess.

Historically, your guess would be incorrect.

Someday we'll have Samsung-free Apple products.  Though I'm sure the Samsung fanboys will continue to flock to Apple user forums to cry the gospel of Android.

And every time they try to, they end up going back to them.

keep your friends close and your enemies closer... samsung "the enemy" is really close now... I wonder if Apple has a contract clause stating that Samsung can't use same parts in their products?...

In this case Apple is giving More and More to Samsung as they are already providing components for the iPad. Your comment is meaningless.

Your comments on AI are worthless.

@Tbell: ??  except that LG has been the main display supplier to both Apple and Dell since 1990's.   Samsung has Sony to thank for their growth  in display business, not Apple or Dell.

If Samsung makes the best components then Apple should keep buying those components.

And if Samsung has infringed Apple's IP then Apple should continue to pursue them for compensation.

One should not interfere with the other.

There's been several reviews pointing out the somewhat poor color gamut on the Mini Retina compared to the Air's Retina for instance, as show above. The Mini is the bottom one of course.

Even compared to similar 7-8" displays from rivals the Mini Retina didn't fare as well.
    http://www.displaymate.com/Tablet_ShootOut_4.htm

Add in reported screen burn-in problems with Sharp's IGZO panels, leading to rumors like these of Apple leaning more heavily on Samsung for their consistent display quality for the next gen iPad Mini.
    http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2013/11/apple-under-the-gun-to-quickly-solve-current-burn-in-problems-with-retina-display-for-the-new-ipad-mini.html

The current Mini Retina's display just doesn't appear to be up to typical Apple standards.

There have been several reviews, yes, but you have to pay attention to the details, which we spent a lot of time going over when the mini retina came out. I thought maybe you had some new information, but I see you don't.

The problem with the mini retina displays was that they were NOT IGZO, like the iPad Air. DisplayMate's conclusion was that the backlighting on the mini's display had to be adjusted in color to save battery life, thus reducing color gamut. It would have been better had they been able to use IGZO backplanes, but no dice for the mini at that time. Maybe now Samsung has the IGZO capacity, and that's what this is about, but if they follow the same backlighting specs as they did for the originals, they will still be reduced color gamut.

Understand? All this can be gleaned from a close reading of Raymond Soniera's (sp?) tangled prose. Most secondary commentators got it wrong, like the one you link to, if I remember correctly.

An iPad Mini helps you to stay connected with your important contacts . It is offering quick and convenient messaging supporting iMessage, emails, push email etc. In spite of this it is one of the mostly sold Apple's gadget on-line with best deals.
