The new iPhoto is a really good upgrade. Haven't tried the new features on iMovie, will do so over the weekend.

Now, is there a way to export an iPhoto slide show so it can be viewed on a PC? With a (FreePlay) song from iTunes, it looks awesome on my Mac, but I wish I could share it with some of my (still) PC buddies from work. It would be really cool if it could export and burn a slide show onto a cd.

As long as they have QuickTime, you bet! Just go and say Export, QuickTime is the last tab and you should be set...

    Wow... this is beyond cool!

Thanks Jared, just exported the slideshow to Quicktime and it worked great! Dissolve effect between photos during playbak is really smooth and the background song sounds amazingly clear too.

I guess I will also export from Quicktime to MPEG for my PC friends who don't have QT installed.

By the way, it is way faster than the previous version and I had no problems with my library of over 2000 photos. Albums and everything else kept as before.

Thanks again for the great (yet simple) tip!

In the read me it specifically says to back up your iphoto library in case of photo transfer failure...people should really read that before installing, and stop blaming apple.

Let's see, I read the ReadMe, I backed up the library, I specifically said it did NOT delete any photos... and other than a mild "Nice one, guys", referring to the loss of the *database* information, I made no comment in Apple's direction.

It was merely a heads up to folks who *might not* follow the ReadMe and decide to blame Apple. Cripes, lighten up, read the post, and stop jumping to incorrect conclusions.

Just to recap for those following at home, or with reading comprehension issues: follow the ReadMe, because there can definitely be problems.

I just opened an existing project in iMovie 3 and there is a LOUD buzzing noise in the background, the project is trashed, unless there is a bug fix. I am usng an iMac 800mhz and 10.2.3.

I don't know if the same problem with result if I start the project again and re-import.

Sucked it all down in record time (about 45 minutes all in: love that broadband!), it all seems to work and it hasn't destryoed anything so far. However, I'm a bit neck-deep in another project, so serious playing will have to wait...

For those just about to download IM3 it might be an idea to back up IM2. Reports on the apple boards of some serious problems ( no change there then ) and some wanting to go back to 2. I'd certainly make sure you don't upgrade in the middle of a project although i've had no serious problems after using it quite a lot today.

After hours of playing I'm starting to see small things I don't like, such as transitions on old projects don't work properly when imported, especially cross dissolve.

I downloaded iMovie 3 and iPhoto 2 in a blazing 15 minutes. I opened iPhoto first and played with it quickly. I opened iMovie 3 soon after and marveled at the new interface. The new timeline and just the entire interface is so fluid. Everything works well, the transitions are better as are the text options. Everything is better and that is the point. What a great set of iApp updates.

Ooh, have any of you noticed the improved editing view when in a separate window? It uses a Cocoa toolbar with a lot more toolbar options, including custom crop constraints.

iMovie3 is deffinetly to be avoided at the moment. yes the interface and new featurers are great...but try using it.

It breaks any projects imported with a Formac Studio (Loud buzzing noise) and there are lots of other problems listed in the Apple discussion boards.

I am now in the position of re-installing iMovie2 or... waiting for the bug fix. Hmm have done the 85mb down load, I don't wan to delete it, but I can't use it either.

Sorry to be redundant, but in the other thread, I mentioned that someone at the MacNN forums says that extracting the audio from the Formac file will solve the buzzing problem.

    Hopefully useable

Seriously, the reports of problems with iMovie makes for depressing reading at a time when the release of the new iApps has been long overdue and people have been expecting so much.

Hopefully all of these problems can be resolved soon and we can all get back to being "creative" again.
