New AppleInsider front page...

Is this old news and am I, as usual, behind the curve? I just went there the other day and it was the old style. Now it looks all cool and the front page matches the forums.

Looks nice. Will feel like a complete place again, once the front page becomes active and perhaps a better real-time chat solution is implemented?

Hell, this could be my true one-stop Mac hangout! News, rumors, forums, chat, etc.

Cool!

Believe me...I'd like to dump about half the Mac-oriented links in my bookmarks and just come here for the bulk of everything.

As it is now, I only come here, maccentral and OCCASIONALLY MacNN (for news). I could easily drop those two if AI started doing daily news as well!

Any chance of that? Please?

I am wondering if Dorsal is involved on providing Appleinsider the 'insider info'

No daily news, or in general, news of any kind. Most after-the-fact news will likely involve followups to prediction stories, like it used to be before.

There will be rumor postings though.

When did this happen? Yesterday it wasn't like that. Oh well, I like it.

Must've happened late last night or this morning then. I just went there on a fluke, to see if my bookmark still worked and BAM...there it was.

I had just gone there on Thursday morning, so it's within the past 48 hours, that's for sure.

I am very impressed by the new front page. It is much more elegant than before.

It beats the hell out of that old black and turquoise, too

    Great job guys.

At the very least, the hardware is up-to-date. That older masthead with the pre-DV iMac artifically given a graphite shell (graphite was never available on the first generation, tray-loading iMac), and the old-style Studio Display on the big pedestal (not to mention the pre-Quicksilver G4) always irritated me for some reason.

Made the site look older and out-of-touch. I guess that's the danger in basing a logo/masthead around actual hardware. That stuff changes so quickly.

At the very least, they could've occasionally updated it as time went on, adding iBooks, adding (then removing?) a Cube, AirPort, etc.

The one now is cool because it's so abstract, I honestly don't what the hell is in those circles. But I know it's SOMETHING from Apple.

it is weird having the thin bar on the left side <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    that may change. we're refining.

We'll be touching up some stuff tommorow and Monday. After that, our attention will shift to reporting

Looks nice. Just one complaint: the logo at the top of the page is too big. On my 800x600 iMac screen the first item barely makes it onto the screen:

flip it to 1024x768. It's no bigger than the old one.
  • Reply 17 of 24
Sorry, 1024x768 sucks on a 15" CRT. Too blurry and the refresh rate isn't high enough. Guess I'll just have to wait for that LCD iMac.

Seriously though ... I'm no Internet design whiz, but isn't that a lot of wasted space at the upper left?

how do you guys plan to handle any legal problems? you're not exactly annonymous here, you have mac.com accounts, they know your name, do you have a lawyer?

I mean seriously. God forbid you actually post something with substance you guys could get hit hard. Are you prepared for that?

the old staff made sure their real names were not known and rarely posted using the names they wrote the articles with and everything
