Now I'm no trekkie but when I think of catch phrases from the show ya I think of the last two Apple has used and "Beam me up, Scottie" Could we see something along these lines???

A "beam me up" reference could refer to a newton device beaming information around.
Okay, some of you "Star Trek" geeks need to start some serious analysis.
WHAT could be a common, unifying tie between Apple and a long-dead 60's TV show, besides a loyal cult following and a charismatic leader/figurehead?
Some sort of technology? The speech thing? This is going to be the LOOOOOONGEST weekend EVER!

I already named a few ideas in yesterday's thread...[*]a .net concept[*]a smart LCARS-style Finder upgrade or search algorithm[*]a PADD-like PDA[*]really cool enclosures[*]improved speech recognition or interface
Regarding the speech, here's my "Scotty" idea again. It seems more likely now than ever! [quote]Steve says he'd like to bring out a guest to introduce the next subject.
The lights dim.
The projector screens show that clip from Star Trek IV where Scotty picks up the mouse to the original Macintosh and says, "Hello computer?"
The lights come back on.
Jimmy Doohan (in an old Trek uniform, of course) walks out with the new Mac.
He says, "Hello computer!"
...and the Mac talks back!!
Naaaaah!!!

BTW, on the TNG/DS9/VOY warp scale, at warp factor 10 you would attain infinite speed and theoretically exist at all points in the universe. Of course, it would take infinite energy to get there, but I digress.
Of course, there's also the old Copland "star trek" project that was supposed to port Mac OS to the x86 architecture. Well, Darwin is already there...

Yeah, applenut, that's my fear: all this hype and excitement-building THEY'VE flamed and provoked.

I dunno. I see your point, but just becasue this is something different for them, doesn't mean anything. WE are the ones blowing it way out of proportion. What are they supopsed to say, watch the Webcast and don;t waste your time showing up in person becasue we have nothing to offer?
Believe me, I am as swept up in this as the rest of you, but we are the ones taking this to the limit.

not exactly. Apple has never done this. usually they just like to keepquiet and then make a bang at the keynote.
this time they want to stretch this bang out for 2 weeks and raise everyone's expectations and STILL blow them away.
it's very strange and I don't think they would be doing it unless they were fully sure that what they have is amazing.
I read this one and thought...wow this means they are closing the mhz gap...but then I remembered yesterday's going where no Pc had gone before, and thought...NO WAY, apple can't PASS the PC mhz level...could they?
SO WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT!!!!!
I seriously Hope this doesn't involve OS X on intel...if you think about it. OS X on intel would be incredibly easy to keep under wraps cause its almost all in house(except for telling intel that its happening)
what if apple released OS X for intel, but at the same time released CPUs that were noticably(to the ave. joe) WAY better than intel/amd cpus....and said "yea sure you COULD use intel with OS X...but why?
that would be a bit better...but still I think OS X on intel would seriously damage apple...and they can't take too much damage...DAMN jay leno! always cuts into conans time!

There is NO way they have gone past PCs in MHz. Apparently they've had trouble getting the G4 chips up above 1GHz anyway, so don't expect anything beyond 1.2GHz I'd say.
And there is NO way they are porting OSX to Intel. Not only would it be suicide, it would also be damn near impossible given Apple resources - there is too much third party hardware in the Intel world for them to handle.
All they are doing is hyping a demo of OSX10.2 that Avie will show...
Someone's watch at Apple was fast. See if I worked there, I would read all these forums and wait till like 12:10 to post the new slogan and see all the havoc that would cause.
What I have learned from MWNY is : Don't Get Let Down. I swear I almost cried after that piece of sh*t. So I decided that instead of getting all letdown I will be happy. I hope that thinksecret.com is right about their rumors but if their not = who cares? at least we arn't using beige boxes and stoving money up bills a**. If apple releases a holodeck = cool . If they release a new imac with flowes and spots = I will just keep smiling.
good stance solo, That way you won't be dissapointed and it also proves that you have more of a life than us pathetic souls
personally I just don't want the show to be all aobut hardware and devices that I don't want or need, I want this show to be the next generation of apple's computers(the 5th generation as it were)well a ghz busting iMac with ddr ram and a NICE graphics card would probably satisfy me(though I am itching for a tower)
Full speed ahead:it could be the long awaited quartz acceleration.(the system can't run at full speed because the cpu has to deal with quartz and system calculations at the same time).
Lust factor ten: it's osx (everybody will love it if its faster(maybe 10 times faster).
I have to imagine that the "Full speed ahead" comment was about, well, speed. That could mean past 1 GHz for them, though that will obviously piss off a lot off people if it isn't 2 GHz off the bat. Remember they've already been hyping current G4s as "blazingly fast" and such. Keep that as a frame of reference when you interpret these things. This likely refers to new PowerMacs.
The "Lust factor ten" was obviously, as another poster pointed out, about design. Sex = design in Apple's world. It likely refers to new iMacs.
I think yesterday's Star Trek allusion referred to another product. I think they're getting a little more specific each day. Days 7-5 were very general, about attitude. The past two days' hints were specific to products IMO.

Set your phasers on Reality Distortion Field...
Well, if they seem to be latching on to the whole "Star Trek" vibe, they may as well take it all the way.

Very fast chips.
Lust Factor X:
You cannot live without it.

This has nothing to do With Mac OS X

Perhaps not directly, but it could have something to do with that company Apple bought and how their products could speed up OS X.
When I first read it I thought: Major speed increases (not only 1 Ghz) and amazing design.

That's what I thought too.

How do I capture and insert an image like that?
GREAT!
