Popular web-based automation and productivity service "If This, Then That" now allows users to add iOS push notifications into their recipes, while computer spaceflight simulator Faster Than Light has come to Apple's iPad.

IFTTT

IFTTT's new iOS notifications channel is a long-awaited feature, offering users the ability to have recipe updates pushed nearly instantly to their iOS device. Users can create a recipe that monitors the weather and sends a push notification when rain is expected in their area, for instance.

The app has also been updated with a new iPad-specific layout and is available as a universal binary. In addition, iOS photo triggers can now be configured to run based on the user's location, and the company has added a new set of curated recipe collections organized around specific activities.

IFTTT version 2.0.0 is available now as a free, 19.5-megabyte download from the App Store.

FTL: Faster Than Light

Faster Than Light, or FTL, is a spaceship simulation game that allows players to take command of a virtual spaceship while trying to save the galaxy. The game does not offer flight simulation, however -- instead, users are asked to make tactical decisions like managing power distribution, ship upgrades, and weapon loadouts.

The iPad edition ships with the game's Advanced Edition expansion pack, which the developers say adds new ships, enemies, events, and weapons to the base package. Gamers should note that FTL will not run on Apple's first-generation iPad, as the developers have chosen to target only the iPad 2 and newer.

Faster Than Light version 1.5.4 is available now as a $9.99, 173-megabyte download from the App Store.

$10 for a game that looks like the sort of stuff last seen on an Amiga 500.

Indeed. I thought we were long past the “port your Flash game to iOS without testing or changing anything to take advantage of the platform” part of Adobe’s downward spiral into bankruptcy.

Yes, I know FTL isn’t Flash. Says a lot about the visual quality of a product that it looks like it, however.

    ^^

you are almost right: this look like "SunDog Frozen Legacy" for Apple II and Atari ST (not Amiga) publishe by FTL ("Faster Than Light") in 1984/5!

(and it cost more than 25$ in 1985. for sure! :))

but what bothers me is this: "Rip-off of an existing game"

    ?!?
