Wow, with all the G4/G5 talk and the forums being down for most of the day, I realized, I have no where to go when these boards are down. LOL. They are tied in with MacNN which is my second choice, after that macrumors.com but they don't have many postings thru the day.

Glad you guys are back, now I can speculate on the towers again!!

The question is: What caused the downtime..?

And why did the MacNN forums go down at the same time? I thought there was a big deal about AI getting their own server?

Yes, whenever one goes, the other goes with it...

I thought I heard about AI getting its own server too...

And when they go down it doesnt leave you with any real "equal" alternatives...

IIRC, they are on different servers, but they're sitting next to each other on the same 'net connection. Their ISP has been getting DoS attacks lately and that was the cause of the recent outages. I suppose that's the reason for today's also.

Isn't MacNN and AI still on the same server?

I'm surprised. I could've sworn they were on different servers.

They are on the same server, AFAIK, but I'm wondering why MacNN was up yesterday at times while AI was still dead...

They were until a little bit before AI came back.

MacAgent, I also find it weird that MacNN was up, although not all day, when AI wasn't.

With all of these outages, it's beginning to feel like the old AI again.

Yep. At least it's not going down for months at a time though.

The forums server is a Dual 1000MHz machine, it holds the AI and MacNN forums comfortably. The server was offline for the 1st time in 70+ days because it was moved to a new NOC. As you may recall there was some time when the server was unreachable because of DoS attacks on the old NOC.

Over the weekend we had problems with the DNS server. Because the DNS server was down all MacNN-related sites were inaccessible.

Later in the weekend there was a problem with the router that all the servers except the forum server are connected to. This caused all sites to be inaccessible again.

Good 'ole MacNN, you can always count on them for instability.
