2Ghz Laptops?? BLOODY HELL!! What can Apple do??
Check this out..
These will be available in June!! It seems that the P4-M is scaling really much faster than even Intel predicted. Really, weight and aesthetics asside, that is one hell of a lot of punch for a laptop. What can apple do, to try to restore some parity here???

but like you said:
BLOODY HELL!! a 2 GHz laptop

Hmmm well maybe if apple had a proc with a 22 stage pipline it would be a little easier now wouldn't it?
It would be nice to converse about more meaningful processor metrics other than megahertz. Intel created the P4 design to appeal to the "megahertz is everything" crowd and I guess they've succeeded..because that's all I hear being blathered about.
ps. i bet i produce more with my 667dvi than 99% of windows users using their 2ghz notebook to check mail, word proc, and play solitaire.
please people loose the number intel megahrtz myth.
ps 3d people excepted of course

Cut the battery life in half and make the laptop slow down by about 40% when it's not plugged into the wall? Then it might be equal.

AND IT RUNS AT FULL SPEED AT ALL TIMES! No stupid cutbacks.
I'll carry 15 pounds of laptop equiptment if I can get a complete desktop replacement. I said 3 GHz becaue that will be the next iteration.
Hmm... it would be prety loud. Fat P4s generate enough heat to fry stuff, so they need bigass fans.
Hey! I'll carry another 15 pounds - a dewar of liquid nitrogen!
2.) Secondly, PC manufactures are ALWAYS taking heat from consumers on the weight of their notebooks. Mac comsumers (& Apple themselves) are always bragging about theirs. My iBook weighs around 5lbs. My friends AlienWare weighs about 12 -13. Gee that just doesn't seem all that "portable" to me.
3.) Windows, and I speak from 5 year PC Admin experience, for the most part is so bloated, that your never see the processor potential anyway. Not to mention all the crap they throw on their systems when they sell it.
4.) The battery life in my iBook is phenominal. I couldn't go 45 minutes with my Dell inspiron without the battery dying. I can take a 3 hour trip in my car without that happening to my iBook.
I'm not defending Mac because I love them so much since I got my iBook. I'm just saying, let the PC morons grunt over their Mhz. It doesn't mean jack in the end.
The heavy desktop replacement laptops are becoming quite popular, Apple should really consider making one.
Correct me I'm wrong, but doesn't Apple's power management scheme cut processor speed as well?

IIRC, certain laptops did so under 9. X doesn't even have an option for it. Run a benchmark (like povbench) with and w/out power - it will turn out the same.
Than again, supposedly this option is back in Jag-wire.
Actually, you can already get a PC laptop with a true 2.4 GHz P4 http://www.alienware.com/main/system_pages/area51-m.asp

Thats the system that I was saying that my friend has.

Now on xlr8yourmac in the iBook soft overclocking article they mentioned that the processor can be ordered by the energy saver to go to 400 Mhz in X.
I hate when people try to sound like they know what they are talking about, but still can't remember that processor speeds are measured in hertz, not bytes....

sorry to be a nit picking smart ass, but processor speeds aren't measured in hertz either, you are referring to the clock speed not the processor speed
Get a life. If you have info on FUTURE APPLE hardware, then this is the place.
This is not the place for CURRENT PC hardware. Go to a PC FORUM for that or take it to the general forum.
Apples doesn't need to do ANYTHING MORE then it is currently doing. That includes the towers as Apple seems to be on a bit of a roll.
So troll elsewhere.
