Moving the sleep/wake button to the right is the most absurd thing I've heard.
You… don’t believe these leaks? I believe them.
I believe the leaks; I don't believe Apple will move the sleep/wake button to the right hand side. They do change stuff from time to time:
1) iPod touch gained hardware volume buttons on the 2nd gen.
2) They changed from a volume rocker to dedicated, separated buttons on the 4th gen iPhone.
3) Mute button changed on 2nd gen iPhone
(terrible picture from Wiki):
We can only hope the larger one is an iPod touch and not an iPhone.
Really not a wise decision to put volume buttons on one side and power button on the other. With one of my previous phones I would often accidentally put it to sleep when trying to adjust the volume.
I Said this before on another topic, I find more problems with the lock button on the side than on top. But I haven't really thought about a larger iPhone and how it might affect the disposition of the buttons.
... Apple might move the location of the sleep/wake button to the right side of the device, rather than the top, where it has always been located to date. It was suggested that this change would be implemented either to help facilitate one-handed use with a larger display, or could indicate a new feature that would require frequent presses of the power button.
And it might help reduce inadvertent power button-pushing when the iPhone is in your front jeans pocket. I have a leather slip-case for my old 5, so the power button is exposed. Many times when I've taken it out of my pocket, the screen was on. Not because of notifications.
Off-topic but I'm hoping that the edges of the back of the metal enclosure really will be rounded. That might help reduce chipping and abrasion of the anodized aluminum color layer. Particularly along the chamfered edges. Anodizing sharp edges as on 5 and 5S means that there's a very narrow area where friction is concentrated. So the anodized color layer can wear through relatively quickly. (Not a problem with the silver / white iPhone, obv.)
Sure, cases protect phones very well. But I'm sick of cases. Would rather use the iPhone "6" bare. Especially if the screen has a synthetic sapphire outer lamination. In my experience the aluminum enclosure scratches much more than even a Gorilla Glass screen.
Well that was a waist of plastic. There's no way Apple would use that annoying design that sasmung has in there phones. Worst part is when your on a phone call and hit that button and then the screen comes and phone calls ended because if you face touching the button.
Yeah for holding the phone while on a call that would seem like a bad place for the power/sleep button as right now pressing that button ends the call when you're not on speakerphone mode. They'd have to give more changeability to that Burton's purpose during a call which would just make matters worse. Then you think of usability when gaming/watching videos in landscape. Placing the power/sleep on the side of the device puts it in prime position to be accidentally pressed causing you to lose your place.
I'm surprised at all the hubbub over the power button. If all we get is a moved power button and a larger iPhone then Apple has jumped the shark. Sure, they are going to continue to sell loads and loads but I've lost interest in Apple as they seem to be mostly coasting after Jobs passing away. Yes, I do think that their stuff is still ahead of the competition and I won't be buying any Stealsung devices, but I'm board with Apple.
And it might help reduce inadvertent power button-pushing when the iPhone is in your front jeans pocket.
True, that happens today. If the iPhone 6 is too large to fit in my jeans pockets, then I'll be forced to carry it in my hands, which risks leaving it behind in public places and/or increase the chance of dropping it. Which problem would you rather have?

Neither. I think the side sleep-button would avoid the inadvertent in-pocket power-up. Too many hyphens, I know. And the pocket fit issue only happens with my Levi's 501s. Not with slacks, Nike warmups, or other pants.
Back in the day, I used to jam both my HP200LX and Motorola Micro-TAC into the same pocket. Along with my wallet IIRC. But not when sitting down. The in-pocket power-up happens only when I sit down. And no, it's really not a major issue actually.
Also. I'm a bit confused by those who think there will be a summer launch. The last time Apple announced a new phone in the summer the beta software was released to developers in April. iOS 8 beta won't be released until June. Is Apple really going to release a new phone and beta software at the same time? They're not going to announce a phone months before it ships because that certainly would kill current phone sales. How can they release a new phone in June if that's the first time anyone is seeing iOS 8?
It would be definitely be unusual, but consider last year's iPhone 5S and 5C release. I don't releasing both at the same time was ideal for business. It created some buyer confusion. What if they release the mid-range model in July with iOS 7.2, for instance, and then the high-end model in September with iOS 8, along with an update to the mid-range model in iOS 8. There is no precedence but I could make a case as to why Apple might find this advantageous even if I do think it's unlikely.
You… don’t believe these leaks? I believe them. People haven’t put any actual effort into faking things since the early naughties. Anytime in the last 8 years we’ve seen something with actual work put into it, it has been real.
This is the first post-Steve product out of Apple. It’s one of the most idiotic things Apple has done, but this looks real to me. We can only hope the larger one is an iPod touch and not an iPhone.
I’m growing tired of people not knowing what a troll is.
That’s how they worm their way in here in the first place.
Actually… There was that one time when everyone thought it was going to be a teardrop design.
One guy went out of his way to create an aluminum mold of the teardrop design… And there were case manufacturers who actually made thousands of cases based off that design.
I believe that was when the iPhone 5 came out. So this has happened before and was incorrect.
This all could be true, and it could all be false. It's nice to think about and speculate. But I will agree with those who think that the sleep wake button on the side is not a good idea.
Usually when I put my phone away I hit the sleep wake button to turn off the screen. If I'm putting my phone away I'm changing positions of the phone anyways to put in my pocket, so, it's easy to hit that button.
I don't need to quickly hit it while in the palm of my hand with one hand use.
The two main problems with putting that button there in my opinion… Is inadvertent presses while grabbing the phone from its sides… That happens every time I grab a Samsung phone from a friend, I always hit that button that closes the screen.
The other problem is (depending on if the design has a flat edge on the side) sometimes I prop my phone on one of its side for horizontal viewing which could cause that button too depressed.
I can't see that button placement being any more awkward than an oversized screen and loads of "know-nothings" have been wanting that.
If I was standing right next to you and said "I'd like an iPhone with a screen as large as my daughter's Note" would you call me a "Know-nothing?" If not, please don't make comments like that here. They're insulting.

Have not seen rumors, but a summer launch is not out of question with that, IOS 8 could be annoced at same time, do developer previews threw mid July and release then, sure its anocced a little over month ahead and developers previews would be weekly, but it's possible.
It's not out of the question for iPhones to launch and ship with iOS 7.x. It's starting to look like that might be the case, because of how early this info is coming out.
Otherwise you're right, it will wait until September like the last two years...yet still technically summer.
I would never believe 7.2 on it, maybe 7.2 at WWDC then iPhone/ios 8 in September.

One thing is on the right side used to be headphone, yet they moved that, maybe they will make a full change top on it.

Really! More absurd than anything that Digitimes have put out?
It doesn't matter to me where they put the sleep/wake button. If it's on a phone bigger than the current one, I won't be buying it anyway.

The good news is that landfills are standing by to swallow these cases, which is where they will end up anyway, sooner or later.
