I know its just an invitation but maybe there is something more to it?

I don't think it means anything. Could be could not be but I doubt it tells us anything at all.

    No, there's no "maybe".

The time has already been bought. Apple didn't buy any time.

    No "maybe".

Apple might not neccessarily buy the time directly. What if they bought the time through their ad agency or a third party PR firm? We know Steve obsesses about secrecy.

That said, I don't think we'll see any superbowl commercials.

Apple does not buy time directly. They buy it through their ad agency just like every other advertiser. As of today Ad Age reported 3 one minute spots were still available. Perhaps but not likely that Apple will run something. They haven't the last few Superbowls so I doubt they will now. As I stated in the other thread on this subject, they have nothing to promote to the masses that is actually available. The new iMac sole model is in short supply, with the full line up of machines not available tuntil late March/early April. People do get p****ed off if they go to buy something and told it is not available..... just look at this forum!

What if Apple bought a time slot through a third party to hide the upcoming PowerMac G5 OS X 11 (this time it doesn't suck) ad that we all know is coming.

All advertisers must be known at the time of a buy. They don't have to disclose their ad or in the case of movie companies what films they will promote, but they are on record. There are no secret dealings, no under the table Apple surprise, no nothing! Life goes on.... <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

Umm, sorry to burst your bubble, but Apple doesn't put mysterious hints within it's website. Never has, never will. If Apple had an ad, they'd be advertising the ad (wow, sounds wierd) all over their website, like when they had the "HAL" ad.

If the Superbowl is a blowout in the first half, pity the poor second half advertisers. Nevertheless, they are promised specific numbers of viewers and if they are not achieved the advertisers receive additional exposure for their ads on the Fox Network.

Didn't they drop a hint once with a magic eightball on the OS X site with a G4 hint for MWNY?

And all the MWSF hype things?
  • Reply 19 of 23
As much as Apple discourages hype and rumors, they have ocassionaly done more than their fair share of it.

Maybe that iTools football invite thing doesnt relate to a superbowl ad, it just seems odd they would waste their time making one at all.

Why hasnt Apple shown an iMac ad yet? Just because the iMac isnt shipping in large quantities (i dont even have mine yet) doesnt mean they cant show a TV ad. It is being advertised in magazines internationaly.

What gives? I smell a superbowl ad or at least they will run the new ad on every other channel than Fox throughout the superbowl.

Ad Age is the "bible" of the business. If Apple had any ads planned it would be a story in the weekly. No story, no ad.
