At the very least, if Apple is clearing powerbook stocks, wouldn't the new

    powerbooks have a new G4 using Motorolas,HiP7 process(re: 0.13µ).

    They could increase speed somewhat

    and still reduce power requirements.

Hasn't it been mentioned the Powerbooks

do get slightly warm?? If yields are

good, might they be in the iMac also??

"But with the market my friend deals with, Pro market, Apple is hurting there. And the conference call yesterday even re-iterates that. Pro users waiting for Photoshop 7 to buy hardware? Uh...no. That is strictly a PR spin by Apple, they know what they need to do. They need to make a large seperation between Pro and Consumer products. That is why my source is being told that the Power Mac AND Powerbook are being updated at the same time."

    Bodhi, I plainly agree.

Can I be overdoing it in stating that maybe there will be a Power Mac G5 *and* PowerBook G5 at MWNY...or faster G4 w/faster bus

Alternatively, if no G5, or no faster G4 via faster bus, what could be so important as to discontinue a product that really hasn't been out that long?

I agree. The iBook and PowerBook just recently got tweaked, and are both fine.

The iMac is now six months old, with no updates. It's definitely due, if only a 100MHz speed bump and hard drive increase. BUT, you never know: Steve could unveil a 17" LCD iMac.

As for the Power Macs, I think everyone would agree that they routinely seem to be the most neglected, and in need of an overhaul/upgrade/tweaking. Those things should be WELL into the mid-GHz range (1.4-1.6GHz, give or take).

I'd be absolutely shocked if both the iMac and Power Mac G4 weren't updated next month.

I'd agree with all of this except the 17" iMac. The cost of the larger screen would push it out of the target market. As it is, it sits at the very top. Adding to the cost will turn the new iMac into the Cube2.

That's what I've been thinking...that the PowerMac and PowerBook will stay around in their present incarnations...at a lower price.

WOW! I would buy the 933 Superdirve (DVD-writer) TiBook next month for up to $9,000! CDN ($6,000 US). What are your guesses for the price if it would come out?

I mentioned that idea a while ago.

My thought was that if the PowerMac get a serious boost, the Powerbook will seem underpowered & overpriced and not sell.

Hopefully it will get enough tweaks to not look out of date.

I don't think they could charge *too much* more than the current PowerBook. Maybe $200 more? I really don't know, just guessing. Did the PowerMac get a bigger than normal price hike when it was intorduced w/ superdrive?

Can we really take this G5 in the PowerBook seriously? Again, I know next to nothing, but I would venture to say it is highly unlikely it would go to G5, regardless of what the desktop machine does.

Of course I hope after the Keynote I have a G5 PowerBook and an Apple PDA on order!

I do not see why they would change the price points just because they added a feature. You wanted a Superdrive TiBook, now you got one for $600 more!! yeah that will fly well.

With FSB changes coming soon, I don't see why the Powerbook and Powermac can't both be updated and a lower end G4 put in the iBook...

Personally I want a superlight Titanium...

I think, if anything, this thread illuminates the need for a vast change to the professional line. Even as Apple touts the improvements they've made to the PowerBook, a lot more could be done, including a faster bus and faster processor.

The G3 is good, but past due for retirement in the portable arena. Let's get at least something mid range with a G4. Is that too much to ask Apple? I don't need a 15-inch screen on a portable to use a G4. Get with the program Apple!

Midrang G4 powerbook, a 12 inch Tibook would do just that, I'll be selling my Tibook to get that one. I can't take my 15 inch screen anywhere without worrying breaking it apart.

I think there is room for both a low-end G4 and a G3 laptop. The G4 for those who think they need it and the G3 for longer battery life and less weight.
