I got an email today from Alza announcing the Apple Shop opening.  All day Friday they are giving 15% off Mac computers, iPads and iPhones.  That will still be more expensive than in the US, but a good deal if you're local.  The first 100 visitors starting at 8am Friday get a green (presumably Apple logo) t-shirt and if you purchase particular Apple products (not specified) you'll get a 1000kc ($50) voucher for purchasing Apple accessories from their website.

The info from the email is here, but only in Czech.

I remember in the 90s the massive migration of American students to Prague since it was known as one of the most active business-friendly countries around. Entrepreneurial college-age people flocked to Prague looking for opportunities in every market. What's the business environment like in Prague now?

    Checkered.

That's too bad. To what do you attribute this shift?

I am sorry but the Apple store within a store in Prague will only be another APR partner and I am quite surprised that it is something worth to brag about on international site. On the other hand I am quite surprised that there is still no Apple store within former eastern Europe. There is potential for it at least in Prague, Warsaw and Budapest. But it is also true that there is large number of Apple Premium Reseller partners in all those cities.

Yes, this seems to be the case.  I can't really work out the difference between this and the numerous other Premium Resellers in the city.  There is no warranty support on site, I was handed a leaflet for a third party (authorised service centre) elsewhere in the city. Buying stuff (Apple wireless keyboard in my case) is just done in exactly the same way as it is with the thousands of other non-Apple items for sale.
