Reality Check #248...
Well... I feel it's time to inject a well-grounded statement that there is NO guarantee of ANY type of hardware announcements WHATSOEVER at MWNY this year. I found myself getting all hyped-up for really cool product updates or releases... but the truth is... NONE of us (as far as I know) know what will be said on-stage this year.
I mean... I'm really HOPING for some insight into the recent acquisitions and see some new kick-ass high-end applications... or hear about the implementation of technologies necessary for third party, high-end audio app developers to totally embrace OSX and open the floodgates.
But all we can do is hope. My fear (as usual) is that as it gets closer and the speculation and rumors reach a fevered pitch on these message boards... the overall expectations are going to gradually rise... to the point where something that on it's own that may be really cool... will be burdened with disappointment because it fell below our expectations... "Way Beyond" our expectations.
Here's to "hoping"... but let's try to keep the upcoming speculation WITHIN the stratosphere this time around. Hehehe...

Or maybe keeping the speculation in the other 10 threads concerning future hardware at NYC.

Huh? What's inappropriate about discussing overall speculation of future hardware expectations in general, under the forum topic: Future Hardware...? This is not pertinent to JUST ONE of those threads... it's a global statement and topic. My "Reality Check" applies to our expectations of "Future Hardware".

Nope. I'm with you.
99.99999% chance of the PowerMac getting updated
99% chance of the iMac getting updated
75% chance of there being another hardware announcement
suckers..
i think yer just lowering yer expectations; preparing yerself for yet another letdown from yer beloved company.

You seem pretty worried about what Apple will do, that's too bad.
I'm sure they will have someting new and better. I'm doing pretty good with my dual gigger. Some faster I/O will be nice, my processors go faster than I can feed them info anyway.

Well... Lowering expectations...? Yep... You betcha. Last time around, the rumors escalated to "Satelite-Based Internet Connectivity" and some REALLY far-fetched ideas that made a G5 look like a pimple... and what did they deliver?
The new iMac flat panel. (Which IS cool though)
Another letdown...? well... I haven't REALLY been let-down by Apple... like I said, it was RUMORS and SPECULATION that raised the bar in our heads. If I hadn't read any of these boards and just one-day logged-on to Apple's site and saw the new iMac... I'd have been majorly impressed. It's a relative scale of expectations. If I expect nothing... then I can truly appreciate what actually IS released.
Beloved...? That's a stretch.

It was Harry Truman.
I don't see the harm in speculating... its not like I'm going to jump of a bridge of it doesn't come to pass!

Don't get me wrong... I'm not condemning speculation by any means... I'm just expressing a mental reminder that these speculations and rumors should not manifest into EXPECTATIONS of what Apple "Should Have" announced at MWNY. It sucks to see people get so disappointed when reality is juxtaposed against the mile-high expectations that get generated by the discussions that arise online right before these keynotes.
Bring-on the rumors... I love to see 'em all!
As much as I profess grounded reality... in the back of MY mind... I'm DYING to see a killer Super-Powerful PowerMac with (place technology advance here) that makes it outperform all other computers & chipsets out there... no-hold-barred! We're talking Pixar, NASA & Microsoft being first in line to pre-order hundreds type-of-good.

Why stop there? I have a feeling that the speed of the PowerMacs will actually DECREASE! Yes, we're going to go back to dual 800 MHz models in the high end...

SJ: "No, you see, we really need all the 1ghz G4s for the XServe. No. No, please don't throw chairs at me!"
I wouldn't worry about that. A week before the Expo, they'll tell you to expect an Mac Expo light years beyond your expectations, and you'll start feeling badly that you don't have enough funds. But when the Expo announcements are officially made, you'll realize that the reality was about one-tenth the degree of the hype, and that you missed nothing.
... it will result in machines >1 GHz.

I do hope Steve Jobs won't dare to introduce a PowerMac G4 running at blazingly fast 100 MHz.

I must have missed the joke here. Do you think somehow that by saying there will likely be machines running at better than 1 GHz, that I actually meant there would be some running at 100 MHz?!
I agree with the "reality check" sentiment of this thread, but it goes the other way too -- there seems to be a bunch of extreme pessimism. Either way it ends up killing any reasonable discussion of what the future may actually hold. Instead we get messages arguing that instead of seeing 2.5 GHz POWER4 G5's on 500 MHz busses in July we're going to get downgrade to 800 MHz machines. It gets pretty tedious.

Anyone ever called you an ass? Just wondering. This is an Apple board. Try and have some respect. They are the fruit of good and evil. Without them, nothing would be as it is. I am not lowering anything, least of all expectations. I hope you find a nice tree to sit under as we tune in the the webcast. That way you have to hear about future coolness second hand.

Beyond the stratosphere. Way beyond.
Oh yes please !!!!!!!
