This is a bit misleading. From my experience the ONLY place you could store data for OSX OneNote was on OneDrive There is no local storage of data - you must be online and "connected to the cloud".
I use OneNote heavily under Windows for work. With local storage. I tried OneNote for OSX because I wanted the same functionality on the Mac. After trying out Mac OneNote and finding you had no local storage I removed it from my Mac and wrote a note to Microsoft stating my reasons why.
I am willing to bet that local data storage was the biggest request Microsoft gets. Build a real app that allows you to store info locally Microsoft, and you will get my business.
I don't need a half-baked product the requires you to store all your data in the cloud. All note taking solutions that force you to use the cloud for storage are a failure.
Of course you can create Notes offline, that would be ridiculous if you couldn't. All you need to do is login and sync once, this creates the necessary local structure and then your good to go. This is all covered in the manual, I would try reading such things in the future before going of on a rant.
It is finished product, but to MS vision... or lack of it. Even Widows Phone version of OneNote does not have access to local storage, only cloud. x86 versions can access both.
Yes it does, I use OneNote offline on my Nokia 1020 all the time, where do you guys come up with this stuff. Once you sync for the first time in, iOS, Android or WM8 it syncs everything to your local file system, when that is finished your free to work offline as much as you want, then once you reconnect it will sync with the cloud, OneDrive would be the dumbest app of all time if you couldn't work offline.
Isn't it just like Microsoft to do the job 9/10 of the way. I applaud MS for thinking of Apple first, but to see a half-arsed job is like MS is putting their corporate logo on the almost- finished product..
Then this is what happens, others start chiming in about something that is not only incorrect but didn't bother to do any research themselves, it's so much more enjoyable to fire first and then let God sort'm out later.
I'm a huge OneNote fan with notebooks going back to 2007 or so. The initial release for OS X and iOS left me wanting more. I really wish it sync'd via iCloud instead of Microsoft's cloud. I'll give this latest version another look to see if it finally is usable.
Yes, the binary image is ginormous by iOS app standards but so are all of the full featured apps like Pages, Numbers, and KeyNote.
I'm still waiting for Microsoft to port Visio to OS X and iOS.
Even the recent versions? Windows Phone version definitely can record (and insert) audio clips into notes. I was under impression that iOS version is on the same level with WP version...
It doesn't seem like it. I get a very simple interface where I can add a photo but I can't find anywhere to record audio directly into a note.
Any particular reason? I find OneDrive to be a very good service, fast, easy to use, well integrated, and plenty of storage.
So do I, in fact out of the 6 cloud storages that I currently use; Box(75GB,Free), DropBox(50GB,Free), Google Drive(2TB,120.00,1TB free for 2Y ChromeBook Pixel, 1TB subscription), iCloud(50GB,100.00,1Y) and Asus Webstorage(500GB,80.00,1Y Free, 3Y contract), OneDrive(1.275TB, 1TB subscription, 200GB for 2Y from my Surface 3and 75 I got for free) is my personal favorite, fast upload and download speeds, great online apps (Word,Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook) and storage pricing for business is simply amazing, 2.50 a month for 1TB, my husband added the kids and I to his firms account, the kids account is just all movies and music ripped from or DVD's and CD's. Which has been really convienant for me while in the hospital, I just click on OneDrive with my Nokia 1020 or 2520, choose a movie and click play, 1080p streams flawlessly. Google Drive is also really great for storing media, the fastest service I have is Asus Web Storage. I use iCloud solely for my iPad, as it doesn't have a filemanager this is the closest thing to it. Their service is also really expensive when compared to the others so unfortunaly I only have 50GB. Normally the other services award their users with free storage every year, for instance with Box, I started out with only 5GB and they just kept giving me a little more free every year, same with DropBox and OneDrive. Apple so far, nothing and they are still charging 100CHF for only 50GB of storage, Google offers 1TB for 120CHF so I'm hoping they'll lower their costs significantly. I read somewhere Apple was supposed to have already done this but my bills are still the same, any word on this?
Relic - loved your post! You're a great story-teller; always amusing and interesting.
Thank you, so Nvidia came through for the kids. Their going to charge me 300.00 per Shield Tablet, which includes the Shield Wireless Controller, a Monster brand HDMI cable, case with rear stand and a little carrying bag, about 120.00 worth of accessories for free, 200.O0 per Shield Portable, which also includes a carrying bag and the Monster HDMI cable. So I purchased 5 Shield Tablets and 10 Shield Portables tablets, with Nvidia matching my purchases that's 30 total units in which we've received 5 of each so far, with the remainder arriving next week. As a special thank you to me I got a developers version of the Shield Tablet, identical to the normal model but with 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB, it also has a bunch of Dev software. Talking about software, each device came with a 50CHF Google Play card and a 25CHF Nvidia Play card for their Nvidia enhanced GPU only games. The nurses are going to assign each bed with one device, using a label maker to show the bed number behind them, makes sense. I haven't had time to play with mine yet, been to busy setting up the other 10. So far I'm pretty impressed with how fast these things are, games like Doom 3 look amazing on my little beamer, but that's a really scary game. I screamed every time one of those imp thingies jumped out, which made the kids giggle, I think their desensitized to such things but I can't watch them play unless one of them is sitting on my lap for me to squeeze on too.

If I remember the WWDC Keynote correctly the boost in memory will come with the release of the new OSes. I think developers got it right away, but not the general public. Some of the cloud storage providers, like MS, adjusted their prices and size quickly to be competitive.

MS is working on a cloud based version of Visio but until then, Check out this fantastic alternative.

Speaking of memory:
Let's see if this would float in anyone's cloud!!
