MacBook sticker sellers see sizable sales surge after Apple's 'Stickers' ad airs
Apple's latest television advertisement -- which shows a number of MacBook Airs that have been customized by their owners with fanciful stickers -- has reportedly been a boon for shops that sell the vinyl decals, with some receiving four times as many orders as they did before the ad's release.

At least one web-based shop, The Decal Guru, recorded an eight-fold increase in unique visitors to go along with a quadrupling of sales. Independent sellers on Etsy's marketplace have seen similar boosts, according to MacStories.
Being featured in an Apple advertisement has long been profitable for the artists, developers, or brands lucky enough to be chosen. Israeli singer Yael Naim -- whose song "New Soul" backed the spot introducing the original MacBook Air -- was unknown in the U.S., but hit number 7 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart after that ad came out, for instance.
First unveiled in July, the "Stickers" ad marks the first time Apple has departed from its well-worn strategy of featuring pristine versions of its products. The laptops in the ad are placed on the table by hand and many are scratched or dented, suggesting that they are the personal laptops of Apple employees or customers.
The ad has been well-received, with some suggesting that it could be the first result of collaborations between Apple's own advertising team and record executive Jimmy Iovine, who is thought to exert a high degree of control over advertising for the Beats brand. Beats's "The Game Before The Game" ad for the World Cup, for instance, has recorded some 27 million views on YouTube and was the most popular spot of the World Cup despite the fact that Beats did not pay to sponsor the event.

I like the commercial - for all sorts of reasons, but I like the look, functionality and uniqueness of my real wood wrap more. I've got both top and bottom wrapped with wood - not only does the Apple logo glow through the wood, but the wood (cherry in this case) changes over time, takes the abuse that the aluminum would normally take and doesn't effect the size of the MacBook Air I have it on.
Do you think someone is gonna customize their Dell to look like the stuff in the ads (if anything, I've seen people covering the Dell logos on their laptops with an Apple sticker).
Sounds like an improvement.
PCs already have enough stickers.
It also serves to easily distinguish my personal laptop from the one my employer issued me.
(edit: "from", not "form"
Or "Windows Vista: Putting the Wow Back in Computing" sticker sales.
Or any Linux sticker, really.
Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson is notoriously anti-licensing, so I'd be stunned if many of those stickers are legit. If not, countdown to lawsuit flurry in 3,2,1...
@spamsandwich - I'd assume 0% goes to Apple. It doesn't matter. It greatly strengthens customers bonds with the Apple product.

All MacBooks are aluminum, so using rubbing alcohol or other solvents to remove sticker adhesive won't do any damage to the surface. Just in case you want to sell your MacBook without stickers. So the next owner can plaster it over with their own stickers.
Rubbing alcohol or other solvents might damage plastic, especially if it's painted. Not good for those plasticky Dells.
(Not that Dell laptops have any resale value anyway.)
Celebration time!

The black Apple logo on the iPad at the end there looks good enough but a lit up white Apple logo contrasts with the black decals. I'm not sure if the iPad would look better with a white logo though. I thought the Mini should have had a white logo when it went to metal but the black was the better choice as it had to have black plastic on the back and base.
I said that in a post somewhere after ad came out.
I'm sure all the decal companies were dancing in the streets when that ad came out. Especially makers of the ones actually featured in the ad.
It is a great ad. (TBWA\CHIAT\DAY). Maybe will become part of a series, like the iPod silhouette ads.
And to think Phil wanted to fire TBWA...
Never was the case.

This ad was apparently created by Apple's new internal ad department. Is there evidence saying otherwise?
Seems the sticker companies that didn't make it to the Apple ad are coming up with their own versions! Sticasso (http://youtu.be/Tj88A5Pi0mI) and Stixta (http://vimeo.com/101701223)
you know we hit a new low when putting stickers on a MacBook is now a good thing.
