Guys, that Tour CD you're getting all excited about wasn't of Copland. They had already given up on Copland by late 1996. That was a tour of the upcoming OS 8, though the real OS 8 was even missing some of the already cut down features that the CD demonstrated.

By the time that CD came out, Steve Jobs was already back at Apple!

The real Copland was much older. Here's a Copland screenshot from early 1994 (April '94), and diagrams of some widgets. This was from the days before System 7.5 hit the streets.. Ahh. Nostalgia

I also have 2 copland builds but they require 2 old macs, are extremely unstable, and there is a good chance they won't work for you

I'd find it incredibly convenient for some things.

what's the diff. between that and just dragging the disk down there?

It's the Copland Installer It installs in 7.5.3 and holding down caps locks when it reboots makes it load the NuKernel and then boots into Copland. I'm gonna try to get some screenshots of copland running even though it freezes up with the debugger.

What features were supose to be in Copland? Was it going to be what OS X is or just an enhanced version of the then current Mac OS?

Applenut, I'm interested too (I've always wanted to try it!). Do you think a Performa 6115CD/60MHz/40MB can handle it? *Fingers crossed*

Here's what Copland was supposed to have:

-Multiple Themes: Platinum, Kids (Later renamed "Gizmo"), and Hi-Tech (Later, Drawing Board was added)

-Task Manager (you could set up, say, an appointment, or a disk backup, and have the computer display a message or do it.)

    -New Platinum Interface

    -Tabbed Folders

-Improved Find (content search; and auto updating saved searches)

    -Multiple User Capability

-Protected Memory, Preempetive Multitasking, Improved VM

    -Classic Enviornment

    -Improved Open/Save Dialogs

    -68k Compatibility

I had builds D7E1 and D11E4 running on a 6100 without too much trouble. It does need a 2nd mac to run the Power Mac Debugger program.

Yeah, Gizmo and Techno. That was Mac OS 8.5 though.
