The only reason they got rid of the 5 was to differentiate for a change. Apple can afford to do whatever they want. They never had a problem keeping the last couple iterations around before and they won't this time as the metal 6 will be different than the 5S.
Again its way too expensive to sell a 5S at $550. Apple would be getting killed on margins.
The 5S/5C lineup should have made it crystal clear that Apple is heading to a TopEnd Metal/ Mid Range Plastic lineup.
There is a demand for a premium 4inch phone. The 5S/spec bumped 5S doesn't need to be that cheap. They can still sell it under the 4.7 inch, but not by a lot.
