But this is U2... nobody actually wants this album. Apart from a few 50 year olds.
All I see plastered all over the internet the past few days is how to remove the album. U2 were very clever in getting Apple to cough up money for this, cause the album just wouldn't have sold much without it.
I'm 32 and I like U2. I certainly am not complaining about a free album. If it were a group that I hated, I'd just delete it and move on with my life. Honestly, there are some real whiners out there and they tend to congregate on the Internet.
That's because people who want the free album aren't plastering the Internet with questions about how to keep the album. The counting bias is built in.
That's not fair, you're not allowed to use common sense to counter his moronic statement.
If the NY Times is right that Apple paid $100 million for these free downloads, the currently Apple has paid about $50 per download. That money would have been better spent offering free apps, music, and ebook downloads with the purchase of new Apple devices. That way, people would get what they want and they'd establish a buying habit.
Thats'a actually a brilliant idea. Apple SHOULD offer iTunes/Appstore credit with every single iDevice purchase. Even a small amount (ie. $20) would go a long way.
Yes, I have spent more than 4 hours trying to get an unwanted item on my iPhone, now, I cannot get rid of it no matter what!!!
Apple should be held accountable to their loyal fans for breaking one of the most honored aspect of Apple.
That's why I created a petition to Apple, Inc., which says:
"Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. They mistakenly thought that all of their 500 million subscribers just love U2. Some of DO NOT. Steve Jobs negotiated the original iPhone with AT&T to exclude bloatware, and not force content upon their customers. Now, Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave because Mr. Cook, for whatever reason, decided that all Apple fans should have the Album. Please sign the petition to remove the U2 Album of our phone."

actually, this U2/Apple freebie may prove to generate the all time high of piss-ant spoiled two year old whiner pants wetting ever heard on the internet.
don't want it? just don't go into your Purchased menu on the iTunes store page and click on it. oh poor poor me! that is so hard not to do!! oh the existential pain. oh they are so forcing me!!! mommy, help!
don't like the Classic u2 sound? too old! no problem, you got the 20+ hit bands today that sell millions doing third rate imitations - go for them!!
folks, just fuckin' grow up.
Nah, it's just the vocal minority again, mouthing off.
Watch the keynote address again. At about 1 hr 44 minutes into it, Tim Cook says "U2" and the room explodes in cheers and applause. That's mainstream. The Internet is for self-important shut-ins who use forums as their hate therapy.

1) Why were you trying to put an unwanted item on your phone in the first place?
2) Apple didn't force anything onto you. You have been given the opportunity to downloading an album for free. By choice. An opt-in, if you will
3) A petition is not going to work, even if Apple pushed a free album onto all of you iDevices and Macs.
1. I didn't put anything on my device, it just apoears in your music library if you have iTunes match
That's not the full story here. People without iTunes Match also get it; but it's not loaded onto your Mac/iDevice. It merely shows an iCloud icon so you can download it, for free, if you want to.

That's a shame. I was hoping to have a mature discussion on the topic. Usually when someone points out an error I made I'm happy when someone shows my err and I'll happily respond with a 'mea culpa' or a simple Thank you.

Thank you.
Look, I've been an Apple user since 1984, I love everything Apple, I own an iMac, MacBook Air, iPad Air, iPhone 5S, (just ordered the iPhone 6) and everything in between, almost literaly. Not telling you this to impress you, but impress upon you that I am not Anti-Apple. You're right, and you're wrong, You're right in that if you download them, they will stay, if you don't they remain in iCloud. Even then, I don't want to see them. You can try and hide them in iCloud, but that is a hit and miss for some reason. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support today, and U2 remains on my iPhone ready to download, and stay they will until October, then they will disappear.
My point is, I didn't want that. If I didn't buy it, I don't wan it. Now, if you have suggestions on how to make U2 disappear without turning off iTunes Match, please, enlighten me.
P.S. no mea culpa necessary, maybe you're are right and I am missing something, its been known to happen

agreed. but media was full of headlines the next day about how iTunes users hated having U2 shoved on them without anyone even bothering to check facts about how the downloading actually works - with click affirmation required for download. that's about as bad as it gets.

That comment about 50 year olds is the most moronic comment I have read all day and you need to grow up.

Exactly .....
2. It's not an opt-in
3. Even if it didn't make any difference. Apple did push this in to everyone with an iTunes acct. and they shouldn't do it again.
I don't want $hit pushed to my device. You have your own opinion.
That's not the full story here. People without iTunes Match also get it; but it's not loaded onto your Mac/iDevice. It merely shows an iCloud icon so you can download it, for free, if you want to.
Yes it is, see #1
Everyone has there own opinion, in that respect, everyone is unique. Just like everybody else.
Apple didn't put anything on your device. Again, see #1.

Looks very much like I was indeed wrong. Sorry about that. I don't have iTunes Match, and can only come up with this possible solution:
Keep Match enabled, but disable 'Show All Music' in (iOS)/Settings/Music:
Terrible website, but may be informative to others:
http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-delete-free-u2-album-in-itunes-2014-9
I think I made that U2 album hidden in the iTunes Store on my desktop iTunes. You can unhide it as well there:
Chuckled at the 'known to happen'. I have that as well.
“I’m leaving, therefore I’m right,” will always instantly disprove whatever argument you’re making.

Rule #4. Uh huh¡
Rule #5. This doesn’t matter.
I guess if YOU say it, that makes it true¡
